    They did the same thing last Christmas.

    We'll no doubt be receiving mail from them over the next few weeks/months as they try to get more subscribers.

  2. I was alerted to this offer by a friend, who was in turn alerted by his Dad.

    The Father in question is a keen model engineer, and the son is a technician with fairly exacting standards.

    (The point of this is that they both appreciate quality tools, as well as a bargain)

    Anyway, if you don't have a mini drill type thing then this might be a good buy.

    One of them dremel sort of things, a flexi drive, and a bench stand for £22.50 delivered.

    No wheels/discs/bits included, but they are on the site elsewhere at a reasonable price.

    For me, a massive tragedy. A talented and level-headed driver who really shone in his field, taken at such a young age. Not to bear comparison but this is a much greater loss than an older man who wasted an organ transplant.

    Get the correct part, trust me.

    I broke mine a while back and fashioned a replacement from what I could lay my hands on. What I didn't realise was that there is a restrictor in the t-piece to restrict the air flow back into the intake. The motor raced fairly badly and was not happy until the proper part was refitted. You are effectively installing an air leak.

    The part number (assuming we are talking about a 3.9 hotwire) is ERR4765

  5. I've a friend with a 110 county 12 seater, E reg 2.5 turbo (not tdi).

    A kind soul borrowed it and cooked the engine, which now only just runs and sounds very nasty.

    Question is how to proceed from here??

    How much would a decent 2nd hand motor cost?

    What would the car be worth as is? - or when fully repaired??

    My initial feelings are that it is probably worth repairing, but I haven't a clue how much a replacement motor would cost.

    Anybody care to give their tuppence worth??

  6. I fear that you're probably right Pete, thats what I was hinting at when making the distinction between what it would sell for and what it might be perceived as being worth.

    If I had the space I would consider breaking it, as I'm pretty sure it would be worth more as parts - particularly as it's in good order.

    Drove it yesterday for the first time in a week or so. That just made me wonder how I could survive without a RR. Maybe trading it at a 4x4 specialist for a p38 might be the way to go.......

    I'd miss that v8 sound if I ended up with a diesel :(

    I don't have a manual for it, except for the RAVE cd and a parts book.

    Must have been someone else.

  8. I fear the time may have come to sell my RR, but now face the perennial question - what is it worth?

    I make a distinction between what it's worth and what it will sell for - and what I really want to know is the latter.

    The car is a 1993 'L' 3.9 Vogue SE, Ardennes green, all the usual Vogue SE spec. Mileage is 135k ish (will have a look later) service history til around 90k. MOT + tax til July '06, fully waxoyled every year.

    Good bits;

    Brand new lower tailgate last year

    new suspension airbags all round over the last year

    new Michelin A/T (225/75) tyres under 2000 miles ago

    Janspeed stainless exhaust sytem (sounds grrreat)

    RPI optimax ecu

    magnecor leads

    new injectors last year

    aircon works

    clifford immobiliser (Thatcham cat 2)

    car never had a towbar before I fitted one - only to tow an inflatable boat (not a RIB)

    Bad bits;

    bits of surface corrosion here and there

    heated seats inop

    cruise works intermittently (never quite got to the bottom of that one)

    I'm sure there are more good/bad points which will come back to me later.

    My profile on the old LRE forum can be searched for a full and frank list of any problems I've had with the car.

    Any ideas on what it'll shift for?

  9. Haven't seen a Sherpa 4x4 for years.

    Used to be a few around here operated by Ferranti (as was).

    My brother in law used to work at Freight Rover and, if I recall correctly, the 4wd system had something to do with Massey Ferguson.

    I think the nato paint is a red (green?) herring. I don't think they saw military service. Definitely not squaddie proof.

  10. Although the specific application in which I'm having this problem is not the RR, I reckon it's a problem others must be having with land rovers.

    I run a 1983 Yamaha TT600 enduro bike as a toy. Single cylinder air cooled four stroke. Pretty low tech stuff.

    I don't use it much, and I'm sure the petrol in the tank and carb is going 'off' after sitting for a month or two.

    There also seems to be an alarmingly fast varnish build up in the carb.

    As it's a bike I can turn the fuel off and run the carb dry before putting it away, but does anyone have any suggestions of things to add to the fuel to help combat the varnish build up in the carb??

    I'm sure this never used to happen with four star. :rolleyes:
