  1. Hi all

It was thinking of going out for a drive on Salisbury plain this coming weekend (Sunday 15 November)

And was wondering if any one else fancied coming along? I know it's a bit short notice, but it's always a good day out.

If you want to assist with Navigation that would also be good, as I have been out driving the plain for several years

I propose meeting at suitable place for around 10am,

    Any questions just ask

  2. From my experience they are a bit heavy on pads, however they are simple to change

Also is you read the instruction manual this is a page about course adjustment of the calliper arm, this works as I did it the other day,

This is quite easy todo in situ on a disco but I have no idea about a defender

I also recently fitted a set of non x eng supplied brake pads, and they were actually fractionally too thick to fit in the calliper and disc, but that was easy to fix

  3. Mine started doing a similar thing, turns out the there was a loose connection on the pipe that runs from the fuel filter into the lift pump, A few turns at the lift pump end to tighten it, and she fires up instantly now

And mine was also after an engine swap, so it is likely that something , is either loose or not seling properly

  4. When i fitted mine, I attached a small plate behind the grill, near one of the horns, after trimming the grill, theis then gives a nice place to mount the cutoff switch.

My cut off switch is wired between the motor and contactor block, so that it should always isolate the motor. Ive also wired the wireless winch controller on to the output side of the safety cut off, This means that the wireless is only active when the winch is.

  5. Just to throw my view into the ring, My current set up is a 200tdi disco, recent genuine thermostat and an aftermarket, temperature gauge,

The temperature gauge gives me a nice reading in degress Celsuis to the coolant temp and as such, I can decide what to do, either pull over and fit the viscous fan i keep in the boot, or turn the blower fans on at low mph to just just lower the temp slightly.

Ive ran it like this for 2 years and havent yet needed to refit the viscous yet, but the driving i do is mainly just greenlaning, pay and plays and travelling between the two.

But it does make it soo nice to work on the engine bay with the fan and cowl removed

  6. It depends on what you use the vehicle for, mine is a weekend plaything doing about 2000 miles a year with a lot of playdays and green laning, hence why my brake pads get changed yearly, and Id just use paddocks mintex pads.

If its mainly road going it may be worth upgrading to slotted/ grooved discs etc, but just make sure that you can keep the exisitng caliper as that an additional expense to upgrade

  7. Un plug electrics, either as mentioned or the rubber sleeve(s) in hinge area is easy to prise off to and find the connections, and then just unbolt and lift off, but watch out they are very heavy. 15kg or so

When i swapped a door i took off the wing as well because it made access to the hinges really easy
