  1. Hi All,

I have a L series Freelander born in 2000 with 170k miles on the clock. A few weeks ago i decided to change oil sump gasket as it was leaking - nothing dramatic, but i enjoy to have a car in good order.

    1. On the first occasion i took the oil sump off, replaced a gasket with rubber one I purchased at the dealer /i don't think it was original tho as it was sold to me at lower than usually price - lets say 50% off/. Put it back on and... dribbling leak of oil.

    2. On 2nd occasion i decided to add gasket type silicone on both side of the gasket. Put it back on and.... dribbling leak.

    3. After taking the piece of aluminium off again i discovered there is a few cracks around the top left corner of sump, just around screw holes. I must have tighten them too hard while possible the sump was bent. Bought 2nd had oil pan since dealer asks 500 eur for new one. Put it on with silicone - all good.

Until yesterday after driving 150 miles on motorway, around 60-70 mph. It leaks from exactly same spot as it was previously when i cracked the old one. It leaks only when pressure is applied - engine on.

My plan is to do a bit of research on what types of gaskets are out there and when replacing it, applying a healthy amount of silicone.

I would be grateful for some kind of advice. I am frustrated at this point and lying under my "black widow" stopped being a joyful type afternoon.
