  1. Hi folks,

planning on driving from Switzerland back to the UK on thursday but having a bit of trouble firing the old girl up.

car hasn't moved for over a year but was running fine before.

the solenoid clicks. the engine turns over but dosn't fire. . air is getting sucked in thru the snorkel (can hear it).

we tried spraying some wd40 in thru the air intake and the engine *almost* fired and some white smoke appeared. this is making me think its a fuel delivery problem although we loosened the injectors and fuel seeped out (when being towed along).

did hear that spraying some petrol in thru the air intake works well.. but didn't quite have the nerve to try that :P

    any little tricks?

    thanks!

    Barry

  2. awesome Guys, thanks for all your comments.

sounds like fitting a 300tdi is an option, if a bit more trouble than a 200. I'd go for a Disco 200 but the exhaust is very close to the passenger footwell and being a left hooker the footwell already gets really hot - especially in Brasil B)

    E-blag - good analysis Hybrid!!

  3. I believe they did it both ways round, 300 to LT77 and 200 to R380. As I said, from what I heard it was just a swapping of the flywheel housings. There may have been a locating dowel that needed moving or such like but the report back was it was "very doable".

so does that mean the engine goes in the same position as the 200 - ie the same engine mountings can be used?

  4. Some Shire LRC members recently did a LR Factory engine course and proved that you could bolt a 300TDi in place of a 200TDi, IIRC it means swapping the flywheel housing as the lumps are basically the same.

good advice, thanks. i didn't go for it in the end.

do you mean the Shire lot married a 300 to the LT77 box?

  5. Hi all,

this is my first post after a long time just browsing! my current pet project is to re-furb an ex-MOD FFR LHD 110 2.5 N/A diesel - as used by ihana.com in south america B)

am wondering if anyone knows about this engine -

I spoke to the guy, he says the engine is from "trade liquidator" and has done 65k miles. Its been sitting in his shed for 6 months.

Ideally I'd like a 200tdi for ease of fitting (and g'box compatibility) but they are getting hard to find..

    cheers

    Barry
