  1. I have looked into taking the E test but it seems expensive for what it is and if I fail it there will be more costs to add retaking it etc. It is all a bit complicated really, someone has suggested getting the Disco downrated, I need the gross weight to be no more than 2250kg as my caravan is 1250kg GVW or MAM. I have an Audi A4 TDi which I towed it with for a whole 60 miles before it killed it, I am now waiting for the Audi to get fixed, lol.

I have also just looked a the log book for the Disco and it says REVENUE WEIGHT 3500kg...???

I would like to be able to keep the Disco if I could but if the only way around is by taking my cat E test then I may just have to sell the Disco and by a 2.5 vectra or omega etc and hope that can do the job.

  2. I have a 1995 Disco 300 TDI 3 Door and I am trying to find out the unladen weight and also the gross weight also known as MAM?

Reason I am asking is I am wanting to tow a caravan but due to the fact I passed my test after 1997 I am only allowed a combined weight of 3500kg and my log book nor the vin plate have any weight details on them.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I have done it already. Not even taken delivery of my first RR yet and just bought another excat same 1989 on a G 3.5EFI Auto for a little project and to learn.

Question how hard is it to fit a 200TDI engine into it? I would like to keep the auto box if possible.

Is there anyone local to Blackpool who could fit it for me but allow me to get my hands dirty and learn at the same time?

I am also thinking about either bobtailing it or a pick up type not too sure yet.

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. Hi Andy,

don't want to upset you but the roof rack came from ebay, £ 40 if memory serves me. I think it is a brownchurch one or copy....

    Hi Les,

Typical, i will just have to keep looking until one eventually pops up that is local enough for me to collect.

    Andy

  5. Hopefully it wont come to that, lol.

Just have to see how things go with it at the MOT test.

I will have a good look around it and do anything I can before it goes for the test.

I will post some good pics on wednesday when I get it.

Any ideas where I can get a roof lining from?

  6. I try not to buy too much off ebay because hardly anything is as described and they always have mates bidding it up so it kills it really.

The seller is delivering it to me on the 25th and I have it booked in for a test on 30th just so it gives me a few weeks to try re mot it before the current one expires.

At the end of the day if it fails too badly I will either break it for spares or make an offroader from it and buy another road going one.

Just have to wait and see.

  7. Hi,

Will Koni shock absorbers from an air suspension LSE model fit a non LSE 1989 3.5 efi model?

If yes does anyone have any experience of using them on there RR and does it make any real difference to the handling?

    Thanks

  8. A G Plate RR could be a complete rot bucket - most are, and if so well worth avioding,

best you take someone who knows their stuff RR wise.

Even a mint G plate will be cheap as chips, so look long and only buy when price OK and condition makes it worth buying

Hi, the seller on ebay described it as

"Here is my much loved and treasured rangie. The only reason I'm selling is because of the fuel consumption. It has all the usual refinements of the Vogue. I have removed the viscous fan to get more mpg and the air conditioning belt has also been removed as I have heard that it is expensive to commision. There is no welding required as I have done all the usual bits. Upper and lower tailgates ok. Full leather seats, the headlining has parted company - as usual! It comes with bit of MOT and tax. What more can I say - apart from - it's cheap. £100 deposit on paypal or personal cheque (on clearance), then the rest cash on collection please. No timewasters or overseas bids. Just adding notes to those interested in my rangie, I have recently had all new brake pads fitted. the tyres are exellent and are a very good make. last year I stripped the rear end to fit a new tail gate cross member! and all welding in usual wheel arch places. whilst doing this I pumped loads of oil / mix down each chassis entry back end. by compressor spray gun so the mist will have reach the front area, the spare is an alloy too. I also fit rear exhaust with proper twin tail etc."

So no real faults mentioned and I have been in communication with him and he has said nothing untoward about it just have to wait until it arrives so I can see it in the flesh

  9. it isnt a problem that he has removed the viscous fan- as long as it has some sort of cooling fan system. The air-con is likely to be shagged anyway so dont worry about it.

One real tell tale that it is a rust bucket is to try and remove the plastic panel in the footwell next to the pedals. One of mine had mostly fresh are here and i didn't spot it until MOT time.

    Post some photos for us

Hi I will be taking a lot of detailed photo's to post on here as soon as I get my hands on it, it is been delivered to me on 25th June so will take pics asap.

I bought it off ebay so it is pretty much a done deal and I just hope it is as described. Cant really back out of the sale now if I see any probs when he brings it unless it is something major.

  10. The 23 - 27 MPG you are getting I presume that is on Gas?

I have been told the one I am getting does around 15MPG around town and 20MPG on a run.

I would prefer to keep it on petrol and add gas I think as I dont want to do too much tinckering with this one I just want it as nice and original as possible.

I believe if I fit it myself or have another DIYer do it I will then need to take it somewhere for it to be checked over and get a certificate for it before I can use the LPG on the road.

  11. Yeah thats the only problem at the minute and the prices dont look like they are coming down.

I am going to be using it as my every day vehicle and regularly do long journeys so I am just considering all options at the minute.

This is my first Range Rover so not that clued up on whats what etc.

I got it cheap so dont mind having to spend a bit on it to make it right just need to get it through the test next month first.

A new LPG kit will set me back approx £500 then I have to get it fitted and just wondering if it would be a cheaper option if I was to go with the diesel engine

  12. Hi I wont be using this one for off road, I am goint to look at buying another for off road when I have got this one through the MOT.

Someone has suggested fitting a diesel engine in it but I would like to keep the auto box, do you know of any diesel engines I can get that will allow me to keep the auto box?

If yes how much of a hard job is it changing it over etc etc?

  13. Hi all,

I am looking into putting an LPG kit on my 1989 Classic 3.5 EFI and was just wondering if there was anyone on here local to me that could do it for a reasonable cost?

I am buying a brand new kit and hopefully twin sill tanks.

I am up in Blackpool and if anyone local enough can fit one get in touch.

    Thanks

  14. Cheers, just hope I have not bought a shed, looks well in the photo's.

I have got it at what I think is a cheap price but it has a short MOT so could be into a few more quid there

I am not mechanically minded at all so anything it needs it will have to be done in a garage no doubt at great expense.

Once I have got this one through a test I plan on buying a really cheap one that I can strip and use for off road and also hopefully learn how to work on them.
