DiscoTDi
Hi - any idea where my TDi300 engine number is located - is it under the vacume pump on the engine block and looks like XYZ1234/X format ? cheers

DiscoTDi
thanks for the link, but still no joy. Doesn't tally up with my engine, I've had a good look with the mirror and torch and it's totaly blank in that position. Probably explains why the log book says engine number 'unknown' ! cipx2
Absolutely ALL 300Tdi Land Rover engines have the serial number indicated in the picture I posted in the 1st thread google brings to you. That is http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?s=&s...st&p=259376 Go ahead and look for it. It's there all right.
DiscoTDi
this is doing my head in - I've been out to the garage several times now and had a really good look but zilch. The engine casting still has the sand finish in that position so it's not like it's been ground off or anything. Possible the engine was never stamped... very strange. I'll check again in the morning with better light.
DiscoTDi
it's an import, not sure if that makes any difference ?
cipx2
No difference. Clean the place a bit, use some sand paper, a flash light and you'll see it.
DiscoTDi
OK I'll get some cillit bang on it, that should do the trick
DiscoTDi
Many thanks for your help, I'd have given up if it wasn't for your assertions I found it, buried under a thin layer of grime. I was expecting to see a nice big deeply stamped number. Talk about inaccessible ..and to think someone actually designed the number to go there (probably the same 4s3h0le that designed the starter motor top mounting bolt). </rant off> Cheers
cipx2
You're welcome. What are the first 3 digits of the serial number, 23L?
