hello

looking at another freelander diesel today its a v reg diesel but it wont go into gear from start but if you start it in gear it will go into the gears then.

do you think it is a box problem or a clutch cylinder problem?

cheers dean

Sounds like the clutch is dragging so that the input (into the gearbox) shaft is turning and the synchromesh is stopping it going into 1st. By starting in gear with the clutch in you are ensuring that the clutch plate is stationary . What's it like in between the other gears when you are moving? Also if you put it in any gear other than first before starting do you have the same effect? Suspect the pressure plate or the slave or master cylinder (for the latter check fluid levels too).
