  1. After reading this I had a go, and yes the amount of cr#p that had to be removed was incredible though I decided to add tree sliders to mine. ] this is the guide line measurements I used as the metal came in legths of 1.5m for the sills and 2m for the sliders. Cut out the wedge at each end to form the angles, I tried to keep one side complete rather than cut if completely All ready for welding together, Just a quick trial fit All Welded up, I then blanked the ends and paint them with some undercoat, mostly for the parts I'm never going to see again All welded in just need to file down the sh*t welds and paint them with a final coat of undercoat then I'll paint them black and add some anti slip tape which comes in 25mm strips which is the width of the sliders When I first built them I was slightly worried about the extra weight, until i cut out the rust to fit them
  2. Being I have a V8, water is my biggest enemy ;D , as i found out when someone told me about the ashford ford. It was quite high but with the flow against the passenger side it was fine, but she stopped dead in the middle of the ford on the way back. This is how i found out that the bloody ECU is mounted under my seat, so the next day it was mounted under the dash where the glove box used to be. Next problem was getting water in the engine, i believe in salisbury plains. So OK, a trip to B&Q for some drain pipe and metal vent hose, plus ebay for a snorkel top and large heat shrink, job done. Now the latest problem i had was condensation inside the distributor cap when punching through snow last thursday. Took Dad to work across the bosses feilds no problem, then take Mum to work. A20 was jammed up so it was suggested i take Lympne road to Hythe, where i found a drift slightly bigger than it looked :-* . The unfortunate thing was i had no WD40 and it didn't matter how much i dried the dizzy out the moisture was too much and then the battery was too low to get going. So this is what i did to rectify it I went to tesco and bought a £7 set of lunch boxes that clamp shut, placed the coil in the biggest (2ltr) along with the relay. And then used the smallest box to house the amplifier pack Which current sits behind the waasher bottle. Then i glued a peice of 6mm tube from a wading kit, (bought it ages ago one day i'll fit it) form the snorkel to the coil box, then tho the amplifier box then in to the right side of the distributor, then out the leftside into a T peice connected to the pelum chamber. Each pipe is sealed with polycement, the stuff they use to weld drain pipes together, (being a strong solvent you have to ask at the counter of B&Q just incase your a glue sniffer ) and the wires/connections covered in bathroom sealant. Now so far i have tested it in snow by hitting every large snow drift i could find back where she died last time, and she didn't miss a beat. So i opened the bonnet and lobbed snow on the dizzy, then the whole engine, quite a bit of steam but still no problems. So i switched it off made a half hour phone call then started the engine not a problem. So when i got home i filled a watering can, started the engine and poured water first on the dizzy then all over. This time i lost a cylinder or two, so i cable tied the leads up away from the engine, and tried again still fine think i might have lost a cylinder for a moment or two but not long. Now the final test (as i was getting cold by now ) switched her off, poured water all over untill the can was empty, which created so much steam i couldn't see 6 inches in front of my nose, Then started the engine... not a single problem, now i'm not going to jinx this and say its completely cured but I am pretty chuffed with the results so far
  3. Yesterday i had to remove a front prop which was shot which now makes mine 2 wheel drive. But i have a viscous coupling instead of diff lock and seem to remember somone saying that i can't drive it in 2 wheel drive because of this. Are they right or am i able to drive as normal until the prop is replaced?
  4. Ok cool thanks FF. I might make it a tad lean and probable leave the idle as its only lower by 200 revs if that.
  5. Recently I built a B&Q snorkel with a mushroom top. I know it will have an increased resistance on the intake which I believe is causing it to burn more feul than air. So my question is how do I adjust the mixture and is it worth me increasing the idle speed along with the air on the air to feul ratio. Or is this something i should not attempt myself.... All help welcome This is it, its disconnected at the moment till i can sort out the prob
  6. Ok I'll stop tring to think ways to use my 600watt to power big things and consider myself slapped across the face by the "you stupid boy" gautlet
  7. would the rectifier in a DC item not syncronise this or would there be problems before it reaches it, like the inverters just go f off and melt or the transformer of it.
  8. Hi I was wondering if I put 2 600watt inverters in parallel would it make 1200watts or does it just reduce the voltage drop if they were way way apart? The thought only came to me because if you parallel a battery it increases the ampage, and if you put it in series you increase the voltage, or is this theory different for inverters Please change the position of this post if necessary as I wasn't quite sure where to go.
  9. Thanks Miffy2a thats excellent I will get it done tonight, so long as the weather allows. Pitty though as i was about to reach for the big grinder oh well it can wait....
  10. Hi the rear O/S door has seized shut. The lock pin refuses to pull up and the only way I know how to get inside is when the door is open. Is there a way off unlocking a closed door i.e. is there a way of removing the dor card with out breaking it off. Or even another way around.
  11. Slightly off topic, has anyone seen a RR classic modded and on expedition or are they just no good for something like that
  12. When i First moved into a flat in Dover, the previous owner had changed his connection to NTL. Then when i moved in i had the BT line reconnected for free. I had to wait a week and it was done then because my flat mate had a contract with Orange we got broadband free as well. If they had told me I need to pay £124 I would of told them where to stick it.
