  1. The radio part of my radio/CD player doesn't work very well. The reception is extremely poor. The aerial is one of those short rubber things fixed to the wing.

What options are there to improve reception. Longer aerial? Placed higher up ie roof?

    Thanks,

    Guy

  2. I'm getting violent vibration when I either accelerate or go over 50mph. It was fine yesterday and started suddenly this morning.

It feels if it is coming though the road wheels. I've checked the wheels and all seems fine. Doesn't appear to be any bearing problems. There is no play in either the front of rear propshaft.

It feels very like something is breaking up as you drive along.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Guy

  3. an update- fitted them last night and found that i had to chop a bit more out of the rear arches, a meeting with Mr Angle Grinder soon sorted that.

and on my way to Whaddon today the handling started to feel funny , stopped and had a look and found that the NSfront spacer was loose ( O'er)

so the poster that said about them working loose was right!

    Dave,

Must be a Simex thing. They never worked loose with the BFGs I had.

  4. Hi Richard,

No Going with the Wife and some Friends from Spain, not sure how many vehicles yet might be 4 or 8 :) .

    Peter

Going to be crowded out there ;). Quite fancy another trip out there now I've finally stopped paying for the first trip (happy days eh Peter!!!)

  5. I ran spacers and Wolf rims on my 110 as I was having issues with the radius arm when on full lock. I never had any problems with bearings.

I now have a 90 with same sized tyres but standard modulars on and have no problems. If i had I would have kept the spacers instead of giving them to Dave :D

  6. I have got standard 16" modulars on my 2" lifted 90 with 35" x10.5 simexes on, oh and extended bumpstops.

I have got some 30mm wheel spacers - if i fit them do you think that they will cause any rubbing of the wheels on the spats, etc...

    whaddya reckon?

    Dave,

I think it would be OK but you ought to try it (Loddington is open this Sunday). I seen rubbing on some cars but not others.

Might be time to buy those nice Mach 5 rims :)

  7. I wondered if changing to the Difflock stuff would help. The jury seems out on it though.

it feels like the cogs are not quite in the right place and you need to give them a short time to come together before you let the clutch up.

None of my other Land Rovers have done this.

  8. I have a P reg 300TDi 90. The gear change is not great on it.

Changing down gears is fine but changing up results in some graunching noises unles you do it fairly slowly. The box has plenty of ATF and is not making any other noises or exhibiting any other problems.

Any ideas. I'm assuming it a selector issue but not sure what.

  9. Thanks all!

    Dave,

The Fastline one is isolating the winch. I have a plastic one (the one Phil was using to isolate the winch). All i want to do is have a quick way of isolating the battery when i want to work on the electrics (Phil is a man of many parts. Auto electrician is not one of them. Lovely cable runs though!!!!) without have to take the seat out everytime to disconnect the battery.

There is not enough room to fit another heay duty switch now anyway. I have plent of suitable cable, just non of it with a battery connector crimped on so I'll have to get Fastline to do that anyway although i do have those connectors with the additional ost on them which coneect to the battery in the normal way and connect the cable to the post.

I knew Jason had your motor. I've already had a few nice bits off it. he said you wouldn't mind  . as I was leaving some bloke turned up to collect the chassis :lol::lol: .

    Enjoy your hols!

  10. This has probably been covered before but I couldn't find anything.

I want to fit a battery cut off switch. Mostly because the previous owner fitted Disco seats in the 90 and to get them out requires undoing 4 bolts and then lifting seat and runners off and then you have access to the battery box. The quickest I have managed this is about 3 minutes, which wouldn't be a lot of use if there was an urgent need to get to the battery compartment. Additionally, when I'm doing normal maitenance its a pain to keep taking the seat out.

I have a twin battery set with an X-Eng 'any idiot can fit it split charge relay' and a switch to isolate the winch as and when required.

Where in amongst all this do i put a battery isolator and which cables do I need to wire it to and how? Diagrams or photos would be most useful.

    Thanks for any help.

  11. Do you mean you have a wireless remote ie Lodar or similar? There is no reason why you cannot run some multicore cable into the cab and put it anywhere you like.

I have my socket for the hard-wired remote (a Husky alloy handset - by far the toughest type) mounted on the back of my cubby box and the Milemarker wireless remote box is inside the cubby box. The wiring for all this then runs out through the floor along the chassis up in to the engine bay and to the hydraulic solenoid pack inside the front wing. Works well and keeps everything in the dry and corrosion free, and it means you can leave the wired remote plugged in the whole time if required, whereas running it over the wing and wrapping it round the aerial is never something I liked doing when driving along.

Not sure if it a Lodar but it is something similar. I wondered about extending the cabe to place it in the cab as they was my preffered option but wondered if lenghtning the cable would have any effect. If not I'll do that.

    thanks,

    Guy

  12. Entertaining wasn't it. They had issued a severe weather warning that morning. According to the Met Office it was a non touchown tornado.

I sheltered at the Wright Off Road tent. We clipped the winch on it and then held on to it for dear life. The guys next door were not so lucky.

The damage I saw amounted to the Trailmasters 110, two caravans, one with a branch in the roof. One flattened! Large number of awnings scattered around. Matt Savage stand completely wiped out (he was in a fairly exposed position).

Heard that a car had been hit and someone trapped for a short time and several tents spotted in the jet ski lake.

Only live a couple of minutes down the road and at home there was only a little rain and some wind.

  13. I've been with this insurer for years with 5 diffrent Land Rovers and never had a problem until now. I'm waiting on a reply from them now as to why the Land Rover fitted one is not good enough (It's on a 300TDi P plate).

Any product reccomendations from those in the know would be useful in the meantime.

    Cheers,

    Guy
