  1. We found gently bashing it wit a BIG sledge hammer did the trick...

Thanks, I will have another go this weekend with a decent sized hammer then.

    Hej Neil,

I hope you didn't damage it over here last summer. ;)

    Hi Todd,

No I think it has been like that for some time, Sweden is not to blame.

My kids still go on about how good that SLRK meeting was.

    Cheers,

    Neil

  2. I tried bashing away at the bracket with a club hammer but I think I need a larger hammer as it did not seem to want to move. It also has a crease where it has bent slightly against the roll bar clamp plate and I am not sure that the bracket will not just fold up with more belting.

As a matter of interest what difference to the car would it make having the roll bar offset due to the bent bracket ?

    Thanks.

  3. 1.5" measured where?

From the ground up to the lip of the bodywork between the rear quarter the door.

I measured the springs in situ and they seemed to be the same although I will have a better attempt tomorrow.

I am beginning to think it is just a Land Rover thing and a bit of packing out with spacers should make it right.

  4. 300TDi 1997 D1, I have put new springs on it, Land Rover genuine HD at the rear and the correct handed Land Rover genuine ones at the front. New ES9000 shocks all round. I though before that it always had a lean and measured now it looks like the driver side is 1.5" lower.

Searching on LR4x4 and elsewhere it seems that a lean to the offside is common, but how/should I correct it ?

If I put 1.5" spacers under the springs I guess that would level it out but would it be likely to change the handling (as such) for better/worse ?

Part of me says leave it alone but it just doesn't look right, plus I have slightly oversize tyres 245/75/R16 KL71 fitted so I need to make that slight adjustment to the rear arch and I presume a lean means cutting off more on the drivers side that the passenger.

If I was going to get spacers are there any recommended places to obtain them ?

    Thanks.

  5. We went to the SLRK summer event last year in Okno and after looking at the Harwich->Esjberg prices for a family of four the cost was just prohibitive. We took the tunnel and spent two days driving. I would go this way again, the kids loved going through all the different countries and finding camp sites etc. The worst driving standards in the whole 2000+ mile trip was encountered on the return from the tunnel to our home, I am not sure what it is but I find driving in Europe on the whole so much more enjoyable & less fraught.

  6. What are the KL71's like? ie offroad, onroad, wear, im thinking of getting them as my next tyre

Only had them on for a couple of weeks :

    Offroad - not tested yet.

Onroad - tread makes them noisier, but not excessive, grip seems ok.

Wear - too early to tell.

I went for 245/75/R16, the local tyre fitters reckoned they would not balance due to the large knobbly bits but they all came up spot on.

    Cheers.

  7. In the description of changing the clutch http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=6719 Les mentions "The front of the engine needs to be kept in place in anticipation of gearbox removal - if you don't do this, the engine will level-out once the weight of the gearbox is off it." Does this mean I need to jack up or support the front of the engine ? Or just to be aware that the engine will shift a bit once the box is off it ?

    Thanks.

  8. Hi,

I am looking for the 8mm Nyloc Flanged nuts needed to hold down the spring turret rings on a Discovery II.

Any suggestions on where to locate them online would be most welcome as I think I have runout of ideas of places to try. I presume that any 8mm ones would be okay or are there hardness ratings etc for nuts ?

    Thanks.

  9. Thanks for the replies.

I am trying to picture how it would be under full articulation, I know about the rear arch snip but still can't really see what he was on about, however he was insistent that as the STT are an "aggressive" tyre pattern they would catch.

Cooper STT or BFG MT, Cooper ST or BFG AT...

    I still can't decide !

  10. Hi,

Looking at fitting 245/75/R16 so my D1 300TDi to get a small height increase. It is not lifted and I want to keep it that way.

I was looking at Cooper STT but one supplier reckons they will still rub on the shocks ?

Would extended bumpstops prevent that ?

    Thanks.

  11. I need a new release bearing and though I would have a go at changing the clutch at the same time.

Looking at Mr Hensons' instructions Discovery clutch change I think I need the

following list. Does this look right ?

    Selection of metric spanners/sockets

    Various screwdrivers

    Pop rivets + gun

    Axle stands

    Trolley jacks

Borg & Beck clutch (plate, cover & release bearing) - is there only one for the 300TDi or do they make different clutch models ?

Clutch fork (reinforced one ? from where ?)

    Clutch alignment tool (LRT-12-040)

Would I need any threadlock or grease anywhere ?

    Thanks.

  12. You probabily know this, but please note: the audio controls on the steering wheel (if you have ones...) will NOT work with the new units, either CD or DVD. I have a Visteon CD player, I wanted to replace it with a MP3 but I found nothing compatible. Eventually I found in the Netherlands an interface which provides an auxiliary input, so I can connect any player (eg an iPod) to the existing unit. I'll install it soon and let you know.

You can get apparently get some interface adaptors (mainly for certain Sony headunits) that allow use on the instrument binnacle switches etc. Have a look here
