why do people use Wd40 and not a proper penetrant like diesel oil?
Is that the preferred penetrative fluid to use? ... diesel?

Hi John, no I won't be surprised.
Cheers, Martin, I'll get in touch with APB.

It looks like the 200tdi hose is shorter than the one used on 300tdi/Td5 snorkels.
Ah ... indeed. Cheers for the shots, I guess it's best to get the TD5 part.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Hey guys,
The flexi-hose in the middle of my raised air intake is starting to perish and I was on my way to replace it, howoever it seems that that specific part is only certified for the 200TDi ... and I've got a 300TDi.
What is the difference? I know that the air intake is on the left hand side of a 200TDI Landy as opposed to the right hand side of a 300TDi but surely the flexi-hose will fit both kits, right?
(want to make sure before I order)
Cheers for your time.

Hey guys,
Thanks to everyone for your replies, loads of advice there, thanks.
Gemsbok: The price in the UK for M&M covers is taking the p*ss to say the least (does it have to be that expensive?), but you're right, they are great.

OK. Cheers, guys! Loads of info, thanks!
I guess it's easier to get a bracket for moving the control/solenoid pack to the engine comp, so I'll have a look around.

you will need to lengthen the 3 cables from the solenoids to the winch and reroute the +ve cable from the battery. mine is mounted on the inside of the wing on the passenger side infront of the washer bottle but anywhere will work, if they are albrright copies best to keep them in a vertical plane.
Hey James,
Cheers for the help on this.
What do you mean by "albrright copies"?? Not sure I follow that? How do you mean vertical plane? (apologies for the noob question).

Hey guys,
Need some advice here, please. I would like to move the control pack of my Warn XD9000 from the front to somewhere in the engine compartment. I've read in previous posts that this can be moved to somewhere in front of the driver. I'm not a 100% sure where exactly (it's already a tight fit in there). Can anyone pass me a pointer, please.
I guess the cabling need lengthening as well.
Cheers for your time.
Thanks,
JackSA.

Have a look on ebay. There are a lot on there, not so many that are a proper tight fit - so search them out of the loose fitting rubbish. I got a great pair for the range rover seats i'd fitted to the front of my 110 on there. Fit tight, waterproof and hard wearing.
Nice one, thanks for the reply.
Do you have the make of your covers?

Hi all,
Am just putting this out there for you all to keep an eye out for a Land Rover 90 2.5td truck cab in dark green with white roof reg number: D157BFP chassis number: SALLDVAB7AA282893. It was stolen from Long Eaton in Nottingham this morning. No battery was fitted but that didn't stop them. it has a repainted chassis in black and 5 brand new 600x16 "Cross Ply type" tyres fitted. Reward offered for recovery of this much loved vehicle. If you know of it's whereabouts then please contact me (pm) or call Long Eaton Police on 0345 1233333. Thanks
Dave.
Truck cab and wheels/tyres (white top with round cover plate from flashing light removal, green sides), other parts could be on auction sites etc.
Can you upload a photo??

Hey guys,
I'm changing gears here from the normal mechanical question ... to seat covers.
I'm looking for a proper set of seat covers with a pouch(es) at the back to fill with toys/books for the kids; something that won't slide off the seat as you get in/out of your Landy.
I had a look at the Melvill & Moon covers on Exmoor's website, but I really can't stomach the price tag.
What else do you guys use?
Cheers,
JackSA.

Hi guys,
Looking to install an inverter in my Landy ... around 250W will do (not planning to arc weld in the middle of Botwana). Mainly to keep the laptop, sat phone and cameras topped up (maybe a small appliance).
I've had a quick look around Maplin, and saw that familiar names, like Clark, not getting the best of reviews; so I'd like to hear from those in the field, please.
Cheers for your time.

Hi guys,
Scorpion racing used to sell (who's the owner now?) a rear wheel carrier with a High-Lift Jack mount ...
Photos over here -> http://www.scorpionracing.co.uk/ -> EXTERIOR -> REAR WHEEL CARRIERS
Since the went bust, do you know where I can find such a carrier?
Cheers,

Give Paul at Patriot roof racks a call, he makes them. Quality of all his gear is second to none.

Hi guys,
Any of you know where I can get a proper storage box for a roofrack (Haniball in this case)? I've seen the checker-plated. very secure, slight sloped in front type boxes at Billing ... but never did make any enquiries.
Paging throught the Landy mags, I see Frogs Island's 90 has such a box, but they don't make it themselves.
Cheers for the help.

I just had to completely rebuild my XD9000 on ARB after only 2 winters and a little offroading, it was packed solid with mud and needed a new motor. I strongly recommend going with something waterproof unlike the WARN units.
Damn, wish I read this earlier. How bad was it?

Those pictures look useful for JackSA, it looks like he might just have enough room to squeeze a Warn XD (complete with Solenoid Pack) under his Bull Bar but it looks like it will be pretty tight.
I think some careful measuring is in order.
Colin.
Yip, you're right, need to give this a bit more thought. I'll drop you guys an email with photos in a couple of weeks time
Cheers for all your help!

My Warn winch XD900i looks like this without the Kangaroo bar .....
Ah, nice one, cheers for the shots!

It certainly doesn't hurt having the Solenoid pack mounted higher up and tucked away from the Mud & Water. I have heard that it is not much help getting Bogged down in the Mud and having to dig the Winch out before you can connect the Controller. Luckily I haven't been in that situation yet but I'm sure it would just be a matter of time.
Colin.
OK, good point. Cheers for all your answers, it's much appreciated. I'll take your advice on this.

That is an EP9.0 and it has a detachable solenoid pack which would normally sit above the motor (on the left of the picture) and will hopefully sit behind the Headlight when I get it wired up.
Colin.
OK, I see ... this brings me to another question, it seems like most of you guys prefer a removable solenoid pack to an integrated one. Is that a fact?
Is it because it's the first part that goes on a winch? (ie due to wading?)

Plumbing for Safari Equip Fuel Tanks
in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)

Hey guys,
The same happened to me. I bought a long range fuel tank, side fuel tank and wheel carrier from Safari Equip and too didn't get a single scrap a paper with instructions. Considering the amount of cash I spend you would expect some paperwork. And this was last year (2009) around May ... so it seems that nothing has changed!
My local Land Rover shop had to chase/beg Safari for instructions after a fair few phone calls. I now have issues with my wheel carrier and have "successfully" gotten through to Lesley (reception) and Tom (workshop) who gave me their email address (which bounced). This has been going on for about a month now trying to get a Techie there to contact me. Lesley promised me this morning that someone will call definately today.
It's a joke. They are very happy to take your money ... and that's where the relationship ends.
