  1. Yeah it does........"Buick had worked with the innovative 215 aluminum block V8 (later to be an Olds, then ultimately a Rover engine), but it was difficult to build and had its quirks. Buick set its sights on the iron block Fireball. It did not share engine block bolt patterns or engine mount bolt patterns." But then it says: "All 225 and 231 odd and even fire V6s use the same bellhousings with slight differences that would not prevent interchange. For that matter, many Buick, Olds and Pontiac V8 bellhousings will fit this engine" so maybe abit of jiggery pockery will let it fit?
  2. Maybe this could help? http://www.megasquirtmaps.com/board/index.php?showforum=58 Interested in your handle and the v8 idea. Currently trying to fit a rover v8 onto a vw gearbox to go into my.......beachbuggy! (kind of a crossover beachbuggy cum rail) look at www.bajaclub.co.uk and the Timberwolf build thread in readers rides: http://www.bajaclub.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic...f=12&t=4062
  3. I'm talking to a guy from British Colombia about an engine adapter. I want one to couple a Rover 3.5 V8 to a VW gearbox. He has one on a Buick V6 (pre 3800). Do any of you Rover guru's know if the buick v6 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as the good old rover? Apparently the v6 is supposed to be a cheapy iron block version of the original alloy buick v8 the rover decended from, right down to having two phantom cylinders in the ignition cycle? So should be the same Hope you guys can help!
  4. Does anyone know if the old Buick 215 v6 iron block (pre 3800?) has the same bolt pattern for bellhousing attachment as the Rover V8 3.5? Need to know as a guy has an adapter for a V6 but I want one for a V8 - maybe they're the same?? I found this on wiki but need some definitive info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_bellhousing_patterns has wiki info on anything on earth?? amazing.
  5. So no real surprises for oil build up and break in, good! Same as what I've done before. Don't know what the engine has had for sure, it's at a local breakers, the guy's a lanny nut and got it ex ebay so whether it's had the list of parts that are shown on the accompanying invoice or not is anyones guess. It's looks to have had a freshen up, maybe a cam, can't remember. Need to look again and go into this with eyes wide shut I recon... good old ebay eh? I'll have a look at the link suggested. Any more good sources for SU knowledge? Used to webers and down draught solexes...
  6. What would the forum recommend as the proceedure for getting up oil pressure and then the initial breakin period for a rebuilt 3.5? The carbs are an unknown quantity too, is there a 'safe' set up for the su until a proper rolling road type assessment is made? I'm a newby too the 3.5 but have mechanical experiance elsewhere, (shan't say where for fear of derision!!! ) seems a nice freindly place round here... Cheers
