  1. Don't forget all N American series were originally fitted with 15" wheels as that's what they had fitted on their Jeeps and 16" were hard to get. Most have been converted to 16s but my series 3 is still running 15s with 235/75/15s. Just makes them a little slower on the highway.

  2. Thanks guys for the info, you guessed right it's a series 3 petrol. Will get some large thick washers to put on those 4 mounts. The old one had normal 5/16 bolt holes and was a sod to get off and was cracked in numerous places. Will take pics Arjan and post.

  3. Hi lo-fi

I think as long as the rubber pads sit on the 6 pads that are on the chassis, then I will leave well alone. If not I'll drill new holes and square everything up. That will just leave empty holes in the floor which I can fill with a pop rivet.

    Thanks

  4. I have replaced the rear tub cross rails and have found out how poorly these were put together. The mounting holes in the floor are not equal. The mount on one side is 3/8" further back than on the other. Should I just bolt the new cross frames where the old ones were or should I drill new holes to square up the frames?

  5. Thanks smallfry for your help, as you said engine mount can be fabricated. I did once join a v8 to a Bettie transaxle using Ali plate and spacers but it was a real pain to get lined up.If you do find one I would be happy to buy it !      Kelvin

  6. I found on the net a fitting kit to put a V8 in a series 3 that included a bell housing adapter, engine mounts to fit it without cutting and welding the new galv, chassis ,spigot bush etc. I contacted the company M D Engineering but unfortunately they no longer make that kit. Anyone know another supplier please?

  7. I have two 1974 series3s ,one is good for restoration and the other is possibly too bad. One has an engine no.25603577B and the other is no.151004734 which I have trouble finding on any list of numbers. The first is a correct no. for a 1974 but what the heck is the second one from?

    Anyone know?
