  1. I sat and looked ate the bits and pieces, worked out how the individual bits functioned, then I said to myself if I were making this thing how would I put it together, this worked fine and it all works like new. I do think something which will cause the mounting solar strap on the Steering wheel Shaft to break is over tightening the clamp at the top. I also see underneath at the bottom there is a place for a threaded bolt. This was missing but it also supports the switch, I think this is quite an important function. The big problem is get it in! Not easy at all, like almost impossible! I made a wire jig to support the bolt I used and after much effort I managed to fit it. My switch is now perfectly located and as solid as a rock!
  2. I need help with my Indicator Switch, I found the bracket around the Steering Column was broken resulting in the switch being all loose. I have removed it and made a repair, made a new strap from stainless and have fastened it in such a way that I don't think it will ever break again. To do this I had to get the switch off the metal mounting bracket. Inside there are three springs, a ball, brass pin for the indicator contacts, a plastic fitting to locate the Indicator Left Off and Right position and plastic (nylon or like material) pads for the spring ends. All the springs are different! I have been able to reassemble the switch and it works, cancelling mechanism etc, fine. Does anybody know the exact locations for the springs etc as I would like to refit the switch assembled it as it was when it was made. I have a picture of the thing but the file is too large to be attached here. If somebody can help please email me at mikestq@global.co.za and I will send you the picture so you can describe what goes where.
  3. Many thanks for the replies tenth body level question, from what you all say it sounds like not problem.
  4. I recently acquired a 2007 Defender 110 with the Ford 2.4 Diesel Engine. The vehicle is in exceptional condition, I know the owner and what he did with it since new. I notice if I measure up from the same points on the Chassis down to a level floor the vehicle stands very slightly right side low, between 5mm and 10mm. looking at it it is not noticeable but being somewhat fussy I have to ask is this acceptable, what is the normal amount allowed? The vehicle has never been crashed and I don't believe the Chassis has been twisted as a result of a substantial knock. The vehicle drives absolutely straight hands off the Wheel and there is no uneven ware on the tires. I have looked to see if a spring has broken or is out of position, I don't think there is anything amiss in that area. My car is Righthand Drive and we Drive on the Left. I appreciate that springs on one side of a car are different to the other, I suspect this is to do with which side of the road a vehicle is driven, Left Side or Right Side, and the associated camber of the road. Possibly also because there is always a driver, as in my case, on the Right Side. When I did an apprenticeship we were required to adjust front suspension, kept within limits, such that despite Road Camber the car would drive on the average road with no pull to the left, actually we were encouraged to have a slight left pull, more of a bias, such that if the Wheel was inadvertently released the vehicle would not wander into the opposing lane. The guys I worked for were not the normal run of the mill garage, they were exceedingly fussy! If nothing is obviously amiss should I get the vehicle to sit perfectly level or is it acceptable to just leave it. Personally I think this is often the case? Any ideas out there please?
