  1. Had this problem when we ran standard milemarker type R winches always worked ok but so noisey and oil got hot after speaking to flow fit hydraulics upgraded the control valves and problem solved, and the winches were much better quicker and more powerfull

  2. would you care to expand on that for the benefit of all of us?

The cyber key comes apart at its fixing point and is only checked by a paint seal at each end where it clips together . Found this out after shutting ours in the door and losing it on an event ,re traced our steps and found it cliped it back together and carried on . nothing was mentioned at the end of the event about the seal being broken, and on checking it at other events it had not been resealed. so the opertunity is there on a difficult or time consuming punch to take it apart and not even have to get the vehicle to the punch.

  3. You could also leave the servos in between the milner levers and the calipers which would give even better braking, if lack of vacumn at low revs is a problem you could also put a tank in the servo suction pipe to give a reserve supply. This system will give greater braking to the rears going trough the sevos on the foot brake but shouldnt be a problem on a trialer. Wouldnt advise it on road though

  4. Why not go back to the milners levers and either put a tee piece to the caliper pipes and have four pistons for the foot brake and the fiddle or get some defender calipers machined to fit the rear these only have one pipe as standard working on four pistons and the pad area is slightly greater . The milner levers are designed to work in conjunction with the foot brake system not as a seperate system, with the fiddle levers being piped into the foot brake system.

  5. Hi Iam new member that hopes to have alot to give to the forum in the future,

I was hoping some body out there may have a clue as to what the valve clearances are on the mazda 3.5slti lump fitted to my 90 defender, had a bit of bad luck during the cold speel , neater hose burst, the tempreture sender

was not working and it runs on a v8 rrc unit and they were on back order it s all called the domino effect i think ?

Anyway to stop rattling on if there is any help out there it would be great to get it running this sunday.

    Thanks

    John B

What year and model mazda did this engine come from

  6. Thanks Richard,

I will set out 2 days for this one then. I spent a year welding rusty trains for a living so I know what hard work it can be doing all the prep work. Mine does have the extra plate that bolts to the rear tub, did you bolt it on to the tub/crossmember to line it up before welding ?

    Matt

Hi Matt yes i fitted it together with a few bolts to line it up then after welding removed it to be able to paint both surfaces before final fitting .

  7. Thanks Nic,

I have been out looking under the crossmember today and was thinking the tank would have to come out. Looks like an all day job then!

Hi Matt i fitted the new rear crossmember for nick , if the bolts that hold the fuel tank gaurd/fixing plate at the rear have to be accessed trough the rear of the crossmember you will need to buy a genuine rear crossmember this can not be purchased with extensions you will also need a second part which is a bit like piece of angle which bolts to the new crossmember and then bolts through the rear body tub forming the body mountings . This can be replaced with the body tub in place but i would allow two days to do the job comfortably especially if you have not done one before. I plasma cut the old one off but this still left plenty of grinding the old welds and plate off to save the rear of the chasis to weld the new one too. The bolts that hold the tank gaurd/ fixing plate through the crossmember sheared off due to corrosion aswell so had to cut these off and weld new nuts in place

  8. a waffle board.......... or a quick strop

I found a waffle in the water section where it came out of the large pipe , i threw it out onto the bank cause we had no room for it and asked a guy there to give it to the marshals.Green one i think waffle that is not marshal

  9. What a fantastic day ! Even the rain added to the atmoshphere ! Once again, loads of lessons learned

Very well done to Dan and Adrian, awsome effort !!

I think that works out over 5.25 hours as 1 punch every 3.75 mins ! That includes finding it and getting in and out !

I can see i've got some way to go :blink:lol :lol::lol:

Actually 5.25 hours works out at 325 divided by 80 = 4.06 minutes per punch . I think in 2nd place with 30 minutes out to repair a broken electric fan ours bettered that at 295 divided by 77 = 3.83 minutes per punch . so Dan and Mr T had it not been for breakages it would have been sooooooooooooo much closer

  10. Is the toyota surf steering box any better or worse than the four bolt rrc discovery box . Im building a challenge truck RRC based with toyota 3.0 diesel engine and auto box , using the toyota box would be easier to plumb into the original toyota box . Just wondered if anyone had any experience with both

  11. What a great day , volunteered on tuesday to co drive for Kristian who was over here from Sweden i had never even met before. Imagine what was going through my head when i turned up late on saturday afternoon to find he drove a full bodied 110 with only front winch and air lockers. SLINDON ,TREES ,A 110 not a good recipe . Sunday morning arrived and as we left the start line i realised Kristian was a man on a mission. We were soon accumalating punches at a suprising rate and seemed to work really well together. Kristian had told me his previous best at slindon was 19 punches so i was also on a mission to get us past this score and had said on saturday if we had at least one 90 finishing behind us i would be happy .We passed this score with a very creditable 24 punches and a good special stage score ( i think Kristian also hold a pilots licence ha ha !) managing full air on the return run . And not one but 15 mainly 90s finishing behind us . Kristian certainly handles his 110 very well and i would recomend co driving him anytime and you will also be garunteed a good laugh throught the day. Thanks to all the organisers for a great weekend. Richard

  12. Bit of a long shot at this short notice but we desperately need a co-driver for Kristian  . He is coming over from Sweden for the event & his usual buddy is unavailable.....

Real nice bloke & good fun will be had!

Any takers ?...good, bad or ugly!!

  13. i dont mean to be a sore loser but if they handed theyre key in late shouldent they have lost theyre points? how late were they?

apart from that a great day all round, we werent looking forward to it looking round on saturday but really enjoyed it on the day with a high punch score and no breakages untill 2.45 wen the winch battery went flat. maybe that cost us the 2 punches we needed. see you all in llanyllllannnfilllanlly.

If you like to check the results you will see that we did lose points 250 of them
