  1. Smart! Thanks! I had never seen something like them. While I’m in there I’ll give everything a good look. Road trip for fishing this weekend. I believe the coolant leak is resolved as well. While I waited for response, I also had time to track down fuel gauge issues. It’s all about the clean ground connections:) have a good one and safe driving!
  2. So I’m under the hood fixing a coolant leak as one does… noticed it was making a strange clacking sound at idle. Look over and see several of the safety wired bolts dancing around loose. I’ve only had a LR for about 8 months so I’m still spooling up on the tech. are these something I can just snug up and re wire? also, it’s a new to me vehicle so I suppose I should check the valves at the same time? nothing strange in the oil BTW. thanks! alex
  3. Thanks for the reply Snagger. I do plan to use the snow tires that are currently on those wheels. This purchase will make it easy to swap from winter to summer tires as I’ll have the extra wheels as well. I only drive in town and back roads. Also I’m the only driver 39 male with no issues on the heavy steering. the pics below are what is currently on my truck for reference. thanks
  4. Hello all, Im looking at a set of wheels and winter tires for my 1974. it’s quite the drive to pick them up so I want to see if they by chance would work as they are an aftermarket wheel and were originally on a 2004 Defender. They are a 16” wheel. Thanks for the help! alex
  5. There is a few used carbs local online. I’ll try to crab one for parts this week and sort this out. Thanks for the help!
  6. Thanks Steve. Here is a pic of what I’m working with. suppose I’m missing something then ey?
  7. Does anyone know anything about the Weber carbs? when I pull the choke cable the idle does not raise. It’s actually seems to run worse. it was in the 30’s today and could use the help. thanks in advance.
  8. Well I drove home in the dark from work. I did find the dash light switch purely by accident when fumbling for the fan switch. it seems all electrical in the truck work as advertised, less one tail light bulb. He got a radiator flush and new coolant today. I really need a new accelerator pump diaphragm as this one has issues. I spent some time moving the license plate to the front of the bumper so I can step on the bumper. Then I ruined my new step by mounting some old school lights in the way. The lights were in a spare parts box in the back. also located the front and back bumperettes and mounted them. here is a few pics.
  9. Yes she is a petrol car. It has the Weber carb. I’ll get some engine pictures today sometime. I mean so far so good with it. My friend with a defender from Africa was surprised at the lack of rust so that’s good too. From what I’m reading I would have to change many electrical components to convert to 12v so I will leave it 24. I will try to find some spares. Only thing if found not to work is the backlighting in the dash gauges. Can’t be too hard of a fix. Thanks for the welcome.
  10. Well hello. My wife and I recently purchased our first LR. Please meet Thomas. He is a 1974 with 67,000km Left hand drive, ex Norwegian military truck. Im excited to learn. I’m a born pre 1967 Volkswagen enthusiast so this will be much different than my normal. We are from the US but currently live near Oslo, Norway. There will be many questions to follow. First off, what do I need to know about the 24v alternator in this thing? thanks! alex
