  1. thanks.

if i removed the rear prop and covered the hole in the rear diff, would i be able to drive it whilst i have the diff lock on?

this obviously would only be a very short term solution as i need to get to somewhere before i can get the diff replaced.

i have seen on another forum that someone has said they have driven with the front propshaft off.

  2. As you say the front was spinning, this points to something in the rear broken. Either a shaft or the diff its self.

If it was me, I would jack the rear axle up one side at a time (to stop the oil coming out), and pull each shaft out one by one.

If they are complete you know that the shafts are OK and that its the diff that has failed.

the noise itself seems to be coming from the front. there was a loud rattling coming from, what seemed like, just in front of the drivers footwell........not sure if this was down to vibration at all...?

i will check the rear tomorrow.

    thanks for the reply.

  3. Hi All,

hope you can help with this (im sure you can!!). apologies if this isnt in the right section but i only have til sunday PM to afternoon to try and get this sorted or use other means of transport.

i was driving home on the A1 and as i came to traffic i applied the brake and this god awful rattling noise started. then i lost power to the wheels. The engine was still running fine.

got to the side of the road and checked underneath but could not see any dumped oil or bits etc.

got back in (engine still idling) , put it in gear and tried to move forward in low ration...nothing

all i get in high or low ration (when in gear) is a rattling or banging type noise. when i slip it back out of gear and apply the hand brake, the noise stops.

I put the diff lock on in high ratio and was able to drive, i managed to get the disco home.

i had called out a recovery service who loaded me onto his flatbed. he said when i was driving up the flat bed, with the diff on, that the front wheels started spinning to get traction but the rear did not.

any help would be great and is this going to be expensive.

any link to other threads would be good thanks.

thanks in advance and apologies again, but i need answers quick.

    Neil

  4. Hi all,

seen a couple of DISCO 2 Boot interior cards on eblag, they are the type that have storage bins with top lids on them.

simple question, will they fit in my DISCO 1. she's an L reg an the interior is looking tatty and i'm looking into changing bits over time.

    thanks in advance,

    Neil.

  5. checked the child lock and it wasnt that thanks. took the door card off had a look around and WD40 and that all seems to be working now.

anyone got any tips for the boot door and central locking? ( i havent stripped the boot lock yet).

    regards,

    Neil.

  6. hi all,

i have a couple of problems with my door locks on my disco 1, hope you can help with some pointers before i start pulling all the door cards off!! biggrin.gif

    1) rear o/s passenger door. the door opens from the outsdie but i cannot open from the inside.

    2) boot door. the door will not lock. the key will make the plunger go up and down but it doesn't lock the door.

    3) central locking/key fob. the fob doesnt lock or open the doors. i have changed the battery and used the spare fob but still doesnt work. it has done in the past. the key will lock and unlock all doors when operated in the drivers door.

    thanks in advance.

    Neil

  7. hi all,

fitting 7.50/R16's tomorrow on my disco, i know i will have to adjust the steering stops, but i'm sure there is a post on here with a pic of which nut to turn and which way to turn it but i cant find it!! (yes i have tried searching)

sorry for such a mundane post but a link to the topic would be great.

thanks in advance to all the knowledgable ones!! wink.gif

    cheers,

    Neil.

  8. hi the cross members.

if you go to paddacks, you will need:

the box sectioned one with the cable support under it. this is the 3rd one if you count forward from the boot door.

the other box sectioned one is 2nd from the boot door.

then the 1st and 4th ones are the same part number. (they are flat metal, not box section)

hope this helps, i dont have part numbers to hand, but if you look at pictures on the paddocks catologue online, it is easy to recognise them.

    regards,

    Neil.

  9. Bloody hell are you phsycic ? blink.gif

looking at where you got the tin worm on the n/s rear seatbelt mount looks exactly the same as mine did.

think you will find a leak in the drain channel up above the rear seat locking catch.

that is where my water "ingressed" in and did all the damage. thought it was a leaking alpine light but it wasnt.

runs down the pillar and either drips over wheel arch and pools in rear passanger footwell or gets under the deadening and does that to the boot floor.

i got exactly the same. see the same pictures on my thread about boot floor!!

  10. hi all,

can someone help me out with a part number and/or supplier of the rear seat belt tie rod and associated gubbins that hold the the rear seat belt mount through the floor of a Disco 1 please.

any pointers on where to look next time would be great how ever obvious ( i have thick skin!!)

    thanks in advance,

    Neil

  11. hi guys,

Ref my other thread about my boot floor:

sorry if this is in the wrong place, and if it is please delete and tell me where to stick it! ( wink.gif )!!!

can any one give me a name of a good/trusted seam sealer to use after welding the boot floor or any other welding cheers.

    regards,

    neil.

  12. thanks Chris,

yep i can see some of that white sealant crumbling amonst some rust in the gutter!!

it is defo coming through from there. dripping down a formed metal "hole" about 2 inches behind the upper mount/anchor for the rear N/S seat belt.

thried to upload photo but it wont let me at the mo.

  13. cheers for the input fellas.

the alpine window is fine as i have uber sealed this sacrifiing astethics for now but the water still pools. so i remove the rear interior cards to get a better feel of where it is coming from. Its rasining here so hope fully i will know soon! shame to do all this work if its going to go again!!

    regards,

    Neil.
