  1. Hi both, thanks for your help, my internet has been appalling today and I haven't been able to reply properly. Despite my protestations that the earth in the underseat ECU looked as if it had left Solihull yesterday, there was poor continuity with a meter. It appeared as if the whole seatbox had insulated itself! so a link from a negative battery terminal to a self tapper has sorted everything. I am amazed. Thank you again.
  2. Hi all, Trying to revive my 2004 TD5 which was SORNed a year and a half ago. The batteries were flat, so I charged them up over the weekend and couldn't get them past 12.2 volts. All functions, windows, hazards, dash lamps and exterior lights etc worked, so tried the key but nothing from the starter but rapid fire clicking. Three days later I replaced the batteries with a pair of the same (Numax CX24MF) refitting all cables in exactly the same locations having taken photos to double check. The mileage display on the speedo was functioning, so turned the ignition on and immediately noticed the orange engine light and glow plug lamp didn't come on, just the oil and alternator lamps, the mileage display backlit, the fuel gauge and temp display moved (It's really hot today) and a relay started chattering under the drivers seat. It's the yellow middle relay above the fuse box in the photo. I removed it, and cranked the engine. Engine span quickly but didn't start. (The engine has always been a brilliant starter) I rechecked my wiring, found nothing wrong, but disconnected the aux battery direct feeds to lamp relays etc., but no change; same two lamps on the dash, engine spins, no catching. At one point the red engine warning lamp illuminated so I switched off. I read up and found the resetting procedure which didn't do anything. The Fob has a new battery and operates the central locking as it always did. 'Tis most perplexing. I'm beginning to doubt the dash display was normal when I tried it with the charged original batteries, but I remember being elated that once the new batteries go in she'll start like a good un. I have a Nanocon and it fires up the opening page but scrolling to reset it tells me there's a ECU communication error, and the display is glitchy. I swapped the yellow relays round and they both chatter in that socket. There's no trace of oil in the loom or ECU plugs. The earths appear clean and tight. Would anyone have any thoughts on what to check for next please?
