  1. Hmm, ok. I'm afraid you'll have to excuse me for not having a Series parts catalogue to hand, and it also seems that I must apologise for not having clairvoyance enough to know either what your vehicle looks like or its' build history

Still, the part numbers are useful, so thanks for those. I still can't see how they qualify as standard, though. I can't recall seeing them fitted to other Series vehicles (obviously, or I wouldn't have had to ask) and they certainly weren't fitted as standard to any of the several Series vehicles that I've owned over the years. The only CSW I've seen them on were the ones I fitted myself, which hardly counts. On the listings I could find with a quick Google it seems that they were superceded by the other type quite some time ago. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to narrow it down a bit for me by saying what year and model yours' is.

On the plus side, I see Dunsfold list them so I know that they are still available, albeit at a price. Ho hum.

  2. I've just bought a Heritage Centre CD that contains all of the workshop, parts and owners handbooks for the 90/110/127 range '83-'89 (not military though). The pdf's aren't particularly portable (I wanted to copy the relevant files to my laptop hard drive but it won't let me) but at under £20 for the whole CD I think it's pretty good value. Even more so when you consider that I bought mine, brand new still in wrapper, from a guy in Austria via ebay for less than Gaydon sell them for :)

  3. Thanks chaps. I was beginning to think that Frank was the only person who'd ever had this conversion as everywhere I've asked he always gets a mention :) I've sent him a mail but haven't heard back yet.

Litch, I spend quite a lot of time on Mud Club and haven't seen anything there (I've also asked the same question as above there too).

  4. Hello all,

I've recently bought a 110 that has this engine fitted and I wondered if anybody had any experience of the conversion? The vehicle was originally fitted with a Land Rover 2.5TD and I'm particularly interested to know what ancilliary fixtures and fittings are likely to be original and what's specific to the engine.

I'm also trying to find from what vehicle the new engine might have been sourced. I think the conversion may have been done by Frogs Island 4x4 but it seems that they haven't offered it for a few years now and nobody there knows anything about them

  5. [anorak mode]

The Discovery 150 was a special edition commissioned by a group of dealers in the Midlands in 1996. There were only 150 of them (hence the name) and they were similar to the XS but with a slightly different combination of extras.

  6. The thing is, 125k isn't really that high for a 12 year old vehicle and specifically for the 300tdi engine. IME Land Rovers tend to be priced more on condition than age and mileage. The full serivce history will add value.

  7. Hi Peter,

I had a very similar problem with mine, although it went from bad to worse slightly quicker. I traced the problem to the 'spider' unit, which is part of the immobiliser. This component is so useless (and technically redundant anyway) that Land Rover have made a small replacement harness specifically to bypass it.

You can read the details of how I fixed mine here.

    Hope this helps.
