  1. I have a disco 1 which i use for laning and p&p days and will possibly using for longer journeys abroad at a later stage I am getting a winch bumper for the front but want to know which winch to get ? Im looking for self recovery and the like so does not have to be the fastest just something that will hold out and do the job ? Ant recoommendations ??? cheers Tony
  2. well i was thinking of ordering the ready built head with new head bolts and gasket and hoping it will be just that, can the bottom part of the engine get damaged or is it only the heads ?? cheers tony
  3. After a recent head gasket change it would appear i have a cracked head which now means my truck is dead !!! Been looking at the options and the rest of the disco is sound, no or little rust and very good condition, so now i need to think what to do If i bought a new head like this http://turner-engineering.co.uk/html/specialoffers.html will this just bolt on and job done or will i need to do anything else ??? cheers tony
  4. yes mate sure did , everything by the book
  5. Recently did my head gasket and for the first 70 miles it ran fine no problems etc. Now i have lost my heaters and i keep getting gurgling in the expansion bottle. I have bleed the system again and refilled it and had it on the drive for 2 hrs bleeding trapped air out of it but after about 10 mins of driving the heaters stop working and the temp goes up and down then slowly up. When i stop it then gurggles again. I dont seem to be losing water and the engine is running fine, better than it did before the gasket was done !!!! Is this just a air block or something more serious ?? Cheers tony
  6. Well i took it to pieces and found that it had been done before but i think not to a high standard the head bolts under the rocker cover and centre line were hand tight !!! This was cusing the exhaust pressure to go into the water chambers etc so was causing the fountain in the cooling bottle. We cleaned the head and replaved the gasket then refitted the rest of it, topped the water and oil up and i have been out for a drive. Done 60 miles with no ill effects at all so looking good. Will check the head bolts after 200 miles just to be sure. Cheers to Les as the guide was spot on and even a personl with limited knowledge could do it
  7. What about a pressure test ?? Been told to do that now
  8. thankyou , ill be following your guide anyway . Do you have to have the head skimmed if there is no damage or warping or can i put it back together with a new gasket ?? cheers tony
  9. My head gasket has gone on my 300tdi disco and i want to know what thickness do i replace it with ?? i see there are 3 sizes each defined by a hole catogory. Which one will mine be cheers tony
  10. I dont think it makes agreat deal of differance if you have a high or low style one as either will get caught at some point It will make a differance as to what style light you use with them though, most go for the rectangular ones as they tend to be lower and because they are flat foilage will slide across them, i have round ones and have had no problems with them at all. I think it is just personal choice Also dont forget that rrc/defender light bars will also fit the disco , i have a defender one on mine
  11. Hi there i have a 300tdi disco and the rubber coupling has given up on me, i have ordered a new one but wondered if there are any aftermarket one to buy?? I know i can change the prop for a early 200tdi one to remove the coupling totally but just wondered cheers tony
  12. Looking for ideas for my disco and wondered what others have done in the way of bobtails and chops to theres any pics would be great cheers tony
  13. Had the same problem myself only a short while ago, in the end it turned ut to be a faulty alternator although you do get the same thing just by having a loose wire or grud on the brushes
  14. Is there anybody running a p38 off road ?? What are they like compared to the old rrc etc cheers tony
