  1. I have an ex-military 1983 - 2.25 petrol S3. LWB. It starts from cold OK. When I turn it off after using it, and try and restart it a few minutes later, it is very reluctant to fire up, and very often it fails to do so. Bump starts like a dream, with hardly any effort(by towing it or rolling down hill). The engine is an Army rebuild, and has covered just over 5000 miles. Runs like a sewing machine when it starts. Any ideas folks. Steve.
  2. Cheers guys, from all that i get the message. Leave it alone and service/replace the standard carb. Will get some standard dampers, that's it. The heater/blower is just to demist the screen better, and somewhere to to warm my finger tips. One more question, when driving it from from England to Ireland, about 400 miles, I lost a load of engine oil. There is a long range fuel tank on it, so I never stopped apart from the ferry crossing. (No snorkel). But have never lost any since doing normal driving. Any thing to worry about.
  3. Hi All, new to this forum and landrovers, so be gentle with me. I have an ex-army 1983 LWB Series 3. full ragtop 2.25 petrol. I have trawled through the forum post's looking for anwers, and found a few. Now here are my questions. I hope to improve fuel economy and getting a bit more power by:- 1. Installing electric cooling fan and taking off the QE2 propeller. 2. Changeing the carb. for a SU (what size) and manifold. Old Zenith carb is knackered. 3. K&N filter. 4. Tubular exhaust manifold and new exhaust (stainless steel). 5. Some minor port polishing. mainly to match manifolds. 6. Loseing weight and getting lighter shoes. Other bits:- 1. Is there an uprated heater matrix and fan available.? 2. Parobolic or standard replacement springs.? 3. Dampers. Standard or uprated.? 4. Brakes are ok. but I have seen somewhere you can get almost straight replacemnet front disc brake sets. Any thoughts. 5. Improvements to the turning circle. 6. Spin on/off oil fiter kit. yes or no. 7. Renew mechanical fuel pump or fit an electric one. The landy will only be used for general driving, and minor abuse. Have used it to pull tree stumps and pull down stone walls and to go where no man has gone before. Generally what they were built for. I live in Ireland so most of you know what the roads are like here. Left England to live here as most roads are green lane naturally. I do not want to do anything to it, so that it cannot be returned to original condition. The engine is an army rebuild and has only done 3000+ miles since. All is in really good condition apart from what I have mentioned. I think thats covered it, sorry to ask so much in one hit but I suppose it's better this way. Look forward to hearing your suggestions and advice. Thanks a million.
