  1. Not sure that I trust paddocks to be more than about 1.5mm thick though! Seen plenty of cheap sliders go into an event pristine and come out the other side as bent as anything.

I definitely want something galv'd, but want a powdercoated/painted finish as I don't really like the galv look on bodywork. Safari Equip are hot dip galv'd then PC, whereas most others are zinc plated then PC which doesn't cut it for me.

Bearing in mind that at £202 for paddocks galv, it's only £38 more for SE which get very good reviews (eg Lewis above).

  2. I'm looking at the FF tree sliders - I'd rather get the galvanised ones for rust prevention, but would then have to paint/coat them myself (not the worst task in the world admittedly).

Does anyone know how resistant the powder coat itself is to damage and how likely to rust they are?

  3. Anyone have any info on the new defender? Had a look around and this is what I know of it: It will probably be built in Slovakia, it's going to look different to the DC100 concept and it's going to launch in 2018 with a price tag of around £30,000.

Also seen people are speculating that another new concept showing the next Defender could possibly make a public appearance before the end of the year.

Anyone know anything for definite about this?

If that's not a marketing/PR/research planted post then I don't know what is!

So RachelM (read: JLR) make it in Solihul, make it £20k and make it properly

  4. From memory, I had to replace the following, during my rebuild:

door bolts (half of them sheared

J nuts for the door bolts

Selection of the plastic bits that the self tappers screw into (to hold various parts of the dash assembly on)

New heater to bulkhead seal (mine was completely rotten)

    New windscreen seal

Vent seals - I tidied mine up and reglued them, although new ones may have been better

    Bonnet hinge bushes

    Mine's a 1985 90

  5. Bit of a delay in replying....

Rear dampers are OME. Std height, I've never seen the point in lifts myself. All still intact.

Interesting idea there muddy. I'm not after bags of travel - fairly standard setup, just want to enjoy a day out without using the hi-lift every 15 mins!

Just got some decent jubilee clips, so I'll fit those and see how it goes on the next trip.

  6. I went off roading (P&P) last weekend, for the first time with my new chassis (approx 3 years old now) and the rear springs were dislocating almost constantly. It put a bit of a dampener on the day, having to get the high-lift out every 20 mins or so. I have been to the same site with the old chassis a number of times and I have also been accross Salisbury plain with the new chassis and never once had a spring dislocate.

I can only assume it's a slightly different chassis design, or the fact that's it's now very much a second car that has caused this.

Either way I need to do something about this, before a tyre gets punctured or similar. A chap at the site said use a couple of good quality jubilee clips each side - although this seems a bit heath robinson to me. The thing that did jump to mind was relocation cones, but I had always previously thought that this was only really needed for serious suspension travel. Mine is fairly standard overall, no lifts or anything like that.

What are people's thoughts? Pop over to Gwyn's website and just get some cones fitted?
