  1. Truetrac is a torque biasing diff centre - I wouldn't write them off so quickly.

Quaiffe do a torque biasing diff, similar to truetrac, but I would thing much better quality.

You will get as many different opinions as people you ask,but I used a rear detroit in my landrover for a year or so,and thought it was great - no handling issues on the road and no clunking when disengaging. The only reason I changed to ARBs was because on very low traction surfaces the detroit would sometimes not unlock on a bend - which wasn't great for trialing.

Give the Kiaser a go,and tell us about it.

  2. Help,I am looking for a road book,in tulip diagram form, which covers Salisbury plain.

I need to practice using tulip diagrams for an upcomming event.

I believe Total Off Road magazine published one a year or two back.

Any roadbooks - on or off road - in Wiltshire or Gloucestershire would be good.

    Thanks, Jerry.

  3. I need all new stub axles on a defender 90.

The front axle is from a B reg diesel 90.

The rear axle is from a 300 tdi 90.

Can anyone give me definite part numbers - there seams to be quite a few stub axle numbers?

    Thanks, Jerry.

  4. I need a gas bottle reg (argon CO2 mix for mig welding). I have had in the past an old mig welder that came with a pub style CO2 bottle which works but the clocks are broken. I also have 2 or 3 other pub bottle regs in very good condition.

Will these do for my argon/co2 bottle.

    Cheers

    Chris

No. CO2 bottles have different fittings to welding gas bottles - also the pressures are much lower in CO2 bottles,so the range of the pressure scale would be unsuitible.

  5. My experience is No.

Tried it to power my milemarker on a 300 tdi with a 30cc pump - 6" pulley on the pump, well over 180 degrees contact and the spring tensioner locked in place to prevent slack under load.

It worked wonderfully when tested in the yard - first time I was up to the bonnet in slop and really needed a winch,it was useless.

I was going to try a synchronous belt, but had a chat with Rakeway engineering, and they warned me against toothed belts - they are non-stretchy,and will snap with the smallest stone underneath them,so must be fully enclosed in a guard.

Poly-vees can transmit big power no problem, but not in mud and slime.

  6. Reb, Thanks a million.:):):)

Now thats a good idea !

Now i just need one before Xmas and the New Year. I'm sleeping in the 110 on New Years eve and it will be cold without a working heater. (i'll be fine, she will not be)

Tony, i'll take a rain check until Rebs idea becomes too expensive........you are correct a "bit easier". ;)

I have a used one of those things.£15 inc p&p.

  7. Is there such a thing as a felt/fibre tipped pen for marking out on steel?

Are there any other options besides a scribe?

Also,I have bought quite a few carp centre punches (automatic and manual) - can anyone recommend a top quality make that will keep its point for more than 5 minutes?

This machine and my previous cebora 185 were both bought on ebay for about £300 (each) and both were in almost perfect,as new, condition.Bargins can be had if you search hard for them.

  9. for 35s you'll need 2" lift (min)

for 12.5s you'll need minimum of 30mm spacers to maintain decent lock / prevent too much rubbing

I run 35/10.5 simex with no lift. The tyres will hit the rear wheel box given a good thump.

Extend the bumpstop by an inch,or raise the wheel boxes rather that lift the vehicle.

I enjoy the relative stabilty of my truck on side slopes.

How can you say he will need 30mm spacers when you dont know what wheels he is using? We are obviously not talking landrover steel wheels if they are 7" wide or over.
