  1. Haven't driven the v8 with lpg since before christmas. Went out today and it wouldn't go cranked it and cranked it till the battery went flat. Thought spider immoboliser so checked on here and as this is a 1993 v8 with single button key fobs (that have never worked for as long as i can remember)it shouldn't have one.i do know it has a alarm that operates off the drivers door lock. Put the battery on charge for a bit still wouldn't go, so in fustration flicked it on to lpg and it started flick it back over to petrol it dies very quickley. Checked the fuse for fuel injection, fuse ok, but no power to the connector in the fuse box. i can hear the relay clicking when cranking but still changed it for a shiny new one. There is no fuel pump humm when you first switch the ignition on. Found the three wires under the rear boot floor that does the pump + and - and the petrol gauge all dead except the gauge wire. Haynes manual says there are two relays but i can only find one. I have tried to put 12 volts to the pump in the tank and nothing happens. so pump gone??, but why no voltage to the wire to the tank?. It only has a small 8 gallon petrol tank stuck to the rear wing as the lpg tanks are where the fuel tank use to be and cant get to the top of it without dropping the tank p.i.t.a any ideas anyone Cheers RICH
  2. cheers guys, just need to check weather there is a differance between the 200 and 300 discos and the petrol and tdi's on the diff (mines a 3.9 v8 200)and do the diffs from any other landy fit?. mines 24 splines and 4 bolts on the prop. again many thanks Rich
  3. Morning all, Changed the bearings on both sides of the axle. They weren't to bad. On removing the half shafts no oil came out shafts were bone dry and splines were in good condition only had the car 3 months or so and have never checked the gear oil, so after replacing the bearings filled the diff up with oil. There is still a definate whoop-whoop sound coming from the rear up to about 30mph then just drones loudly so i guess the diff is shot?????.The sound isn't there when i reverse? Is there a way i can take the diff out of the equation??. I need the car on the road to get backwards and forwards to work for the next two days, does anyone think it will do any harm to drive it while i find another diff. also is it just a question of pulling the halfshafts out dropping the prop and undoing all the nuts on the diff casing and it should just pull out (doesn't say in the haynes manuel says leave it to a expert). Many thanks Rich
  4. disco disco disco

  5. Afternoon all, Need a bit of advice, was on my way home along the motorway early this morning in the 1993 v8 disco doing about 65ish when all of a sudden felt like someone had pulled the handbrake up and was dragging the rear wheels, slowed down and pulled off the road had a quick look underneath and all seemed fine carried on home at a sedate 45mph with a loud drone from the rear. Ive had another look in the pouring rain and gale force winds and seems that the drivers side rear wheel bearing has gone, got a very noticeable rumbling on the osr and if i hold the wheels at 12 and 6 a little bit of movement in both sides. Also while underneath noticed there a a bit of movement from the flange that the prop bolts onto on the diff, can move it in and out by a couple of mm is this normal or should it be solid? can also turn the wheels about 1/4 turn before the slack is taken up and the prop starts to move guess this is not normal. Been quoted £50.00 per side for the bearings but its just the bearings no gaskets or washers is this about right? and need to get a 52mm box spanner have tried at all the autofactors places where i live and no one has anything.where best to buy one from?. cheers for the help in adance gwsrich ps any idea on what i will need to replace? which washers seals gaskets? cheers
  6. Went out this morning and had another look found the kickdown cable has seized up, when i accelerate the cable pulls out but wont return. Its been resting on the manifold and has burnt the inner and outer casings away, causing the gearbox to want to kickdown constantly. I disconnected the cable and she will now change gears just cant give it a big boot when overtaking. Now just got to figure out how to change the cable, any ideas. cheers rich
  7. Disco 1 v8 just done a 500 mile round trip and noticed that towards the end of the journey the box would bang into gear (normally 4th). Now this morning been out and the box changes 1st to 2nd no problems then wont change to 3rd till the engine is screeming and then wont change to 4th at all. checked the oil in the box and that seems fine doesnt smell burnt or anything. Could it just need a filter and oil change or is it time for a recon one?. anyone any other ideas please cheers gwsrich
  8. Having read the advice on here just been out the front and given the wheels a shake, If i hold the wheel at 12oclock and 6 oclock then do the same with my hands at 9 and 3 seems i have a little bit of movement in both front wheels and one of the rears. If i spin the wheels they are nice and smooth and very quiet. So guess i need to adjust the bearings!!!! Will do this as soon as i get a 52mm box spanner (ideas as where i can get one from tomorrow??) many thanks for all the advice it is priceless Rich
  9. Have had a look underneath and nothing really seems to be amiss possibly needs a new trackrod end as the rubber has split but the joint still seems fine, will get this changed at the weekend, and then will see if it improves, if not then i'll change the steering damper. i dont think its all that bad once you get control over swerving across the road, but the misses says the car oversteers one minute then seems to understeer at the next corner and the steering doesn't right it self I will look over the rear next just in case it at the back Rich
  10. After 4 weeks of ownership (3.9 v8) took the old bus down the motorway today and anything after about 60 mph the disco becomes very wobbly, almost like a barge. I was swerving all over the place like the steering was doing the opposite of what i was wanting. kids were pi**ing them selves with laughter and the other half was screeming . So anyone have any idea what i should be looking for when i have alook underneath in the morning? i do know that it had a new/reconditioned steering box in the passed year. Many thanks in advance RICH
  11. hello all, i found out the oil hadn't been replaced for approx 2 years when i drained the oil it was like water and the oil filter had the date 10/05 written on it so guess it was in need of new filter and oil, as the engine has done 217k miles thought it would be benefitical to use 20w50 as its definatley worn to a degree. Rich
  12. Evening all, Drained the old oil and junked the rusty filter, Put in some nice 20w50 oil in and replaced filter, all sorted light now stays off when warm and sat in traffic Jobs a goodun Rich
  13. yet again back on here searching for an answer, 1993 disco 1 3.9 v8 while driving today after about 15 minutes in start stop traffic the oil warning light starts to blink at me, when rev'd a little over tickover light extingishes, Got home left car for 1 hour light fine but again after 20 minutes light back on again. could this just be carp oil breaking down?, a dud sensor? or kaput oil pump?. checked oil and that was ok between the lines on the dip stick. Is oil sensor failing a common problem on this car? Cheers RICH
  14. Cheers just to clarify that v8 ignition parts should all be lucas parts. if so, that could be the problem as the parts fitted at the moment dont look very old but are cheap motor factor parts cheers RICH
  15. Yet another question, Start the old v8 this morning and it coughed and spluttered till it was warm(first time ive used it in the rain as hasn't rained in the passed 5 days since i got it.). she has ran a little rough when idling on petrol but not so bad on gas when i first got her. so guess i need a new set of leads and cap, but which ones?. do i just grab a set at the local motor factors or keep to the originals if so where do i buy them? local landrover dealer or where??. Have read on here differing veiws as to weather to stick to oem or not.
