  1. Thanks guys As Bogmonster as said, I’ve ruled out the clutch fork as there is normal clutch pedal feel, (with no unusual slack), and for that reason I’ve also ruled out the clutch cover plate collapsing, so it looks like tem mainshaft splines that’s stripped which is going to mean a exchange gearbox so I’ve decided to scrap it, I’ve got a local Land Rover specialist coming round to make an offer this afternoon. Thanks for the offer of a gearbox K88, much appreciated, but I’ve not got any facilities where I live to swap the box myself and can’t justify paying garage labour rates on a vehicle that would still be worth less than £1000 after the work was carried out, (plus just checked, the MOT ran out on Wednesday ), so I see disposing of it as it is as the best option and an ideal excuse to trade up to the Td5 I’ve been promising myself for months. Can anybody give me any idea of what a reasonable offer would be to accept, it’s a 1993 200Tdi with a knackered gearbox but excellent engine, (no smoke, averages 32 MPG in flat Norfolk, normal running about, cruises easy at 80 mph), with 172,000 miles, Alloys with what I would describe as an average body, the Land Rover specialist has indicated between £250 and £500. Regards and again thanks, Holmstack
  2. Stressed, she ill :(

  3. My trusty disco 200 TDi has become untrustworthy tonight, the transmission has completely failed with my first thought being the clutch cover plate collapsing, but the clutch still has a good pedal do I think I can rule that out. It didn't make much noise, just a change from 3rd to 4th that baulked as if the clutch had not cleared, then went in the second try after pumping the clutch but leaving no drive whatsoever, (the transfer box has not jumped into neutral). It's throwing it down tonight, not up to crawling about underneath it, but can anybody suggest what it can be ? It gets all the gears but there no drive, (in high or low ratio),and there is nothing, (no flanges or shafts), moving underneath when in gear and the clutch out. It saddens me, my suspicion is the transfer box and if it is she's not worth spending the money on, (which is a pity as she has a great engine), and I will have to scrap her. Then again, I've been considering getting a Td5 for a while now, I can consider my arm twisted Any ideas please ??? Holmstack
  4. Hi All. Just an introduction I’ve just bought an old Disco, not my first choice 0f vehicle but it was at the right price, in good condition and I needed a runabout quick so I bought it. It’s a 92 200TDi in Champaign Gold with 160,000 miles and in the 2 weeks I’ve had it, it has never ceased to amaze me, even after a weekend return trip to London from Yorkshire that included driving through the city centre. OK, she’s a bit agricultural round town but the seating position compensates for that and the engine has enough mid range to keep up with traffic and it played with a comfortable, (all be it a little noisy), looping 70 to 80 mph cruise on the motorway averaging over 30 mpg , (around 26 MPG general). I’m hooked. It’s a well looked after vehicle, having had 1 owner for the past 5 years who has spared no expense with work carried out including a full engine rebuild, new turbo, injection pump, power steering pump, gearbox oil seals and a full body/chassis re-bush with the interior clean and original and bodywork being in gleaming condition, looking like a much newer vehicle. The only thing I can see it needing sometime soon is a new set of tyres and I would appreciate recommendations of a good all round tyre to fit, bearing in mind that I would like to keep the standard wheels and intend doing some gentle off road driving in her in the future. Speaking of off road driving, as I say, off road is where I would like to take her, (it’s what she was designed to do), and I would appreciate recommendations of easy beginner trails where we can share some good driving times in the Huddersfield/Pennine area ? I will post some photographs later. Regards, Phil L
