  1. I thought as much, i saw a few pictures of defenders in deserty terrain that had the STT's, so thought i'd check, but i was reasonably sure that mud tyres are bad in sand. i'll be going for the AT's then! as far as pricing, i found Silverline 4x4 were pretty good on prices, they're a new Cooper 'power seller' so apparently their prices are low due to the amount they buy in, they have adverts in a few mags and the wheel/tyre packages look very well priced...
  2. I'm after some tyres for our 110 for Spain and Morocco, i saw on a site the Cooper Discoverer ST-C, which looked ideal for the driving we'll be doing, but i've looked everywhere and i can't find them, does anyone know if they're still available? failing that, it's a toss-up between BFG AT's in 285/75/16 and Cooper Discoverer STT in the same size. which would be better for mainly dry, dusty, gravelly, sandy, rocky conditions? (i'm thinking the BFG's) Oh, and can anyone recommend a good puncture repair kit? (for off road use of course!) thanks
  3. You can download them off the interweb, as they've said, but i'd advise having both software and a hard copy, if you only have a laptop copy and your laptop goes t*ts up (and they always do it at the most inconvenient time!) then you're buggered! not only that, but if (heaven forbid) you get robbed or have the vehicle broken into, who's going to nick an old workshop manual over a shiny laptop?
  4. Don't know if it's the same vehicle but i remeber seeing one of these going to the Sultan of Rrunei, along with a couple of other custom made vehicles, namely a Bently Arnage 4x4 built onto a Range Rover chassis and a Ferrari 355 estate for his wife! (pointless or what?!) i have a few friends who work out that way, i also got a picture of a completely chrome plated Mercedes SLR recently, even the windscreen had some kind of chrome look coating on it! just shows, money doesn't buy taste! (apart from the Rangie...)
  5. yeah, we're back in the uk on tuesday, for 2 months, and yes i'll be fitting it myself, though my lady will probably help with the tea and biscuits! obviousley cost is an issue but i'd rather pay a bit more and get a good setup rather than skimp and get a carp one, i was hoping to keep it under the 700 quid mark for everything, but the devon 4x4 kit is just over a grand, i could possibly stretch to that if it's REALLY worth it? i know that kit over here in spain is massively expensive, so i'd rather do it all in one go and get everything i need while i'm at it.
  6. Hmm, so what kit did you use? i've been looking at a kit from devon 4x4, has everything but is twice the price and a bit higher, i don't mind forking out if it's worth it, but i thought britpart had a good reputation? not for competition or racing but for 'normal people' usage i thought they'd be ok? and are the extended brake lines necessary?
  7. thanks for the input everyone, the only bad post i've seen was this one, on another, not-so-good forum: "I had a bad experience with them. Had a V8 fitted when i was living in Birmingham. Had to travel back down twice to get it running even remotely correct. 1 year on and i have had to replace almost everything going for a rebuild in June. They also fitted the wrong fan (to small) which was not working. When i asked them why my heater was reading hot they told me there was a difference between disco and defender. So they changed the gauge for an electric type which was unecessary. They also left many bolts out of parts and my prop shaft was put on the wrong way. They also fitting an air filter box with no air filter in it :fire:. I left my landrover with them for a total of 8 weeks and still when i got down there they seemed to have just started the jobs. I would avoid like the plague they sound as though they know what they are doing but in practice they don't. Rich" anyone got any idea how accurate this is?
  8. I know this topic will have come up many times but i don't want loads of tech answers, just basic stuff! i'm intent on lifting the 110 when we get it so i can fit bigger tyres without problems and give a bit more clearance, I was going to use the Britpart kit, which has springs, shocks, radius arms (F&R) and retainers. do i need anything else with this kit? We will be going off road plenty but mainly in dry conditions (we're based in Spain, loads of dry riverbeds and hills) and i don't think we'll need huge articulation (we're not rock crawling!) so as far as i know it's all in the kit. i've heard about longer brake hoses, dislocation cones and longer propshafts but from what i've read on here, it's only when you go over two inches you get problems, though i have to say longer brake hoses makes sense... so, is it all in the kit, apart from the hoses? or do you recommend other bits?
  9. I'm a newbie to the site having not had a landy for a while unfortunately! but i'm looking at getting another soon and have seen a company called land rovers uk ltd in somerset, i'd never heard of them but from the site they have a few nice looking landys and a decent workshop. so has anyone had any direct experience with them? i don't want to hear the "my mates cousins aunt dealt with them..." thing though, only directly. any helps appreciated thanks
