  1. UPDATE.......... The power seering hose is no longer made or stocked by Land Rover, and I couldn't find any pattern parts. I took the hose off and took it to Pirtek in Swindon. They pressure tested it and identified an invisible crack in the rolled lip of the hose end. Originally they were going to make me a new hose complete (they reckoned about £55), but they soon realised that their pipe bender couldn't form the steel pipe into a tight enough bend to clear my alternator bracket. (they could send it off to another depot over a day or two if I really needed a new one), and so they suggested a silver solder repair. The upshot is they have solder repaired the fitting, I have fitted it and is now fluid tight........ for £5 all in, including new O Rings. Really good service from Pirtek in Swindon. Damon
  2. Thanks for all your replies. A new part is less than £50 (genuine only), so am off to the parts shop tomorrow. Damon
  3. Yes, I am resigned to getting a new hose for it, although I am struggling to see how it could have worn in the fitting to the point of serious leakage. The hose goes from a steel angle at the pump, into rubber, and then into a longer section of steel pipe at the box. I can't work out from Microcat whether this is all one replacement unit. Can anybody advise? Damon
  4. PTFE tape didn't fix it, and it does in fact look like its coming out between the collar nut and the pipe, not the threads. It seems to me that if the o ring is sealing as it should, then there shouldn't be fluid there, but I have fitted 2 new o rings and can't stop the leak?? Damon
  5. DOH!! Never thought of that. I will go get some.
  6. Hi All I have acquired a leak on the hose between the pump and the box, pump end. The fluid is pumping out between the threads of the fitting end. I have put a new O ring on the fitting (RTC4825) (also tried RTC 4826) , and the fitting looks undamaged, but it is still leaking just as bad. Any further Ideas? Many thanks Damon
  7. Well tyre monkey has 'out of stock' by all of the Greenway range, and won't let me order any, but Tyres Direct has let my order go through, so fingers crossed. Have just noticed that Macho's are M rated, whereas the Marix Pumas are Q rated, so will look at these next time I need a set. D
  8. Thanks Steve I know Sowden don't have any....... that was who I got them from in the first place, and went back to him for my replacement. It is him who is now selling the Marix Puma instead. I will have a look at the other places you list. The Macho's have done about 20000 miles and are 3/4 worn, so not great, but at the price I am happy. They have never left me bogged off road, but I have a petrol v8, with underslung LPG tanks so don't go mad...local green lanes only, and prefer rocky and twisty to bog anyways. I put the Macho's on, which are quite agressive because I drive the lanes alone so wanted a bit of insurance. On road I noticed a large performance drop going from Eagle GT4 road biased tyres in 235/70 size, but it still pulls 80+ on the motorway with ease so no worries. I didn't think they were noisy at all when I first fitted them, but as they have worn they have got noisier, though not intrusively, and they are surefooted in wet and dry on tarmac. damon
  9. Hi all I need a new 265/70 x 16 Macho tyre for my Disco. Colway/Greenway have gone pop, but the firm I originally bought the tyres from are now doing a Sahara/Macho copy by Marix........... the 'Puma'. Insa don't do a 265/70 sahara, so that isn't an option. Anybody heard/know of this firm and their quality or otherwise? Thanks Damon
  10. Hijack alert!....... Would anybody know whats involved in upgrading a 200 series front to a 300 please? Lights and grille is what I am after. Damon
  11. 5 new waterproof inline fuse holders and a swanky high power gas soldering iron and they are all replaced! God, those thick wires take some heat to get the solder flowing. I have gluey heat shrinked all the joins and PVC taped it all up mega tight and thick and hoisted it up off the inner wing a bit to keep it out of the crud. Slung a selection of 20-30 amp fuses in as that is what I had and all systems are normal again. Works better than it has for ages. Now for the EDIS install, front spring lift, sticky gas solenoid and range rover seats installs........... that are all part done. Note to self............ must finish jobs, must finish jobs. Thanks for the suggestions. Damon
  12. Crikey that's a long way from the far bank of cylinders! I have gone with the water pump mount.......... nice bracket made by Les, EDIS-8 module on inner wing drivers side, MJLJ to left of binnacle. Loom mostly made now so will have it in soon. Will post pics when I have finished rewiring all my fusible links! Damon
  13. Yes. My alternator is only 65 amp. The fusible wires are thin.......... I never imagined they would be expected to carry anywhere near 100amps. I have some thinwall rated at 27amps i think and that is significantly fatter than the fuse links? I did a quick jury-rig with this 27amp wire and it solved the problem (ie it started), but did get (only slightly) warm. I will search out the TDi diagram. Damon
  14. Hi all Does anyone have any advice on replacing the fusible link(s) hidden away on the inner wing. My Disco v8 just died, no power at all except sidelights, on the way to work this morning. It took me all day to find the problem............. fusible link corrroded away to 2 strands of copper at the join........ quite proud of my multimeter and deduction skills! My plan is to replace all 5 of the links (all now stripped out!) with waterproof in line fuses.............. say 30A rated, at least to start with until I get to measure the current flow and fuse appropriately. Anybody already done this or have any better ideas? (I know they do fusible link replacement kits (AMR3927), but they are £105 and nobody seems to have any) Thanks Damon
  15. Thanks Ian I remember vaguely hearing that LPG liked a steeper map. I have also heard that detonation is harder to detect on LPG, so am a little clenched about dialling in too much on the gas? Les is making my coil pack bracket as we speak, and I am finishing off the loom at my desk. Am running the MJLJ with a PP3 battery, and have the map switching working and all, so when I get the shed that is my Disco back I will get it fitted and post up an update. Only anomaly so far is that the RPM guage in the configurator shows 228rpm with no inputs. Even shows this with the MJLJ unconnected to the laptop. Damon
  16. Thanks HoSS I was tempted to do that as this is all the RPi ignition amp with added 'advance' for LPG does. I will try that for a kickoff. Damon
  17. Hi All Update: I have decided to go for the water pump mount, as Les had already had a think about it and formulated a plan, mainly. I am sorting the loom ready for its return, and hunting down some scrapper Escort HT leads. Will post photos presently. Anybody out there have any proven ig maps for LPG?? Damon
  18. That is very neat Paul! What Standard Ford Leads can you use from that position? istruggle2gate11: Like that one too, but I am way too scaredy to drill the plenum. I have now spoken to uncle Les, and 'we' are going with the water pump mount. If it looks as neat as Paul's setup I will be v pleased Les! Damon
  19. Hi Tom Sadly my engine (Disco) is tight to the bulkhead and no room either side on bulkhead due to LPG emulators and other bits and bobs. I do like the plenum mount, for tidiness, but am also worried about heat damage, but then coil packs are v cheap so I suppose I could carry spares and just suck it and see. Damon
  20. Please excuse my late response........ I think I stopped getting an email alert when the thread was moved? and have been busy digging my vege patch on the first decent weekend of the year round these parts. Geoff: Your plans would be very useful if you could dig them out. I haven't welded for 15 years, but I know a man who can. I would really appreciate the HT lead lengths also if you have them. I have found the image that first sparked my Plenum mount idea: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?act=atta...ost&id=5502 Would heat transference be an issue with this option do we think? Damon
  21. Looks like they will catch the arches with spacers, as well as needing bigger arches. I put 265/70's on my Disco, and had to adjust the lock stops a lot. You soon get used to the oil tanker turning, after being really peeved with it for a week. Damon
  22. Nige: Thanks for that. I know nothing and so am prepared to be led. Do you think a mounting like the photos above will get over this heat sink effect? Are the leads that much longer than from the front left side option? Fridge: Those photos are great, and another option (as opposed to mounting straight to plenum) that might get around the heating fears. Looks not important for me particularly, just thought a plenum mount was neat as no leads need to cross etc. I have wavered between plenum and water-pump cover mounting (shameless rip-offs both!), and am back in no man's land again now, DOH. D
  23. Hi Guys I only start on petrol, for literally two seconds until the revs drop and it changes to LPG automatically. The LPG system is an old style 'draw-through' system (though with a stepper valve linked to a lambda to make it closed loop), which I can ramp up the gas flow on. If this wasn't the case I would MS in a jiffy (or more likely several months of disasters!). I have a Unalite dizzy, which gives good sparks, but the vacuum module has gone kaput, so thought I may as well 'jolt it now that switchable maps is available. Anybody got any good maps for LPG?? (I hear they like a very different profile) Nige: I have read your threads with great interest and seen your mounting solution, which I have spoken to Les about fabbing me up, but then I saw the plenum mount and it looks really neat, so thought I would take the chance. If they start breaking down I guess I will have to re-think. They are often mounted on the block in ford applications I think? Damon
  24. Thanks Fridge' I had thought of the potential for welding disaster, and have got a plenum off of ebay just in case. I plan to beg Les to do the welding as I think he is a TIGmeister. I did PM him a while ago on the subject, but I think there was a PM problem at the time as have had no response and they aren't in my sent folder I notice. A picture of the mounts would be most useful please. I think I've seen a pic of a blue plenum on here with chunks of ali welded on for coil packs. A measure of the leads would be great too, so I can source them before strapping it all together. So standard 7/8mm silicone leads are adequate?... I thought the bigger the better given that I have LPG? Damon
