  1. The tyres seem to be ok but there was a dramatic improvement when I changed them. I'm off to Portugal in it again on Sunday and will check eveything mentioned before I go also I'll keep an eye on things on the journey. I'm seriously considering removing the propshaft when I return as I only need 4WD in Portugal, sounds like that may solve the problem. Thanks for all your comments
  2. Hello everyone. I've got a Freelander 'Commercial' TD4 on an '05' plate with about 85,000 miles on the clock. When I bought it I noticed noise from the rear wheels and vibration from the transmission (gear lever shaking about). I had it serviced by our regular mechanic who diagnosed a bearing failure in the front propshaft. He replaced the propshaft but the noise and vibration didn't seem any different. I took the vehicle to Portugal and back and the problem remained. When I returned I changed the wheels (steel for alloys) and it seemed a bit better. The noise is a bit like rear wheel bearings but I checked these and they are OK. The transmission vibration is also worrying, everything seems to be OK with no signs of wear. I realise that the 'commercial' will be a bit noisier than the station wagon due to the lack of carpet etc but this is really getting me down. Anyone got any ideas? I want to avoid taking it to someone who changes some expensive part and leaves the problem!
