  1. Hello, the NATO hook was on my 90 when I bought it but I have never used it.

When I checked it out today I found that it have seized, it won't rotate.

I tried to loosen the big Philips screws, to see if I could take it apart

to lubricate or clean it up but the screws wouldn't budge.

What's your experience, is it worth the effort to get those screws out

by some means or will it be knackered inside anyway?

    The hook looks like this:

  2. Hello, I have yet another torque related question. The manual states 260-280

Nm for the crankshaft pulley bolt, but my wrench only goes to 220.

My biggest fear when working on any engine is to over-tighten and snapping bolts.

How do people usually do it, I am thinking to get a 1m steel pipe to extend my

wrench with. Is that OK, will I risk breaking things?

270 Nm would be pulling with about 27 Kg with a 1m shaft, right?

    /Tomas

  3. WSM (section 06, page 2), says 22-28Nm.

23-29Nm for the belt tension on early engines, 20-23.5Nm on later engines (without flywheel timing pointer).

OK, I torqued it to about 25 Nm which should be OK then.

I had read some article that stated 45 Nm, but

that seemed waaay to much for those rather thin bolts.

Good thing I trusted my instincts then, or it might have snapped :-(

    /Tomas

  4. Hello, I have recently changed the timing belt in on my 2.5 N/A, but

I am starting to doubt wether I torqued the tensioner properly :-(

I have the workshop manual, but I have to admit that I am confused

about which the correct setting is. I am talking about the

tensioner-to-engineblock torque, not the tension on the belt.

  5. Hello, when I turn off the full beam it doesn't go off. When I turn the engine

off it will stay on for about 10 secs, then its just dipped?!

I just bought the landy and the previous owner told me that the lefthand headlight

burns out all the time, I guess this is why. You wouldnt notice it if you're just

drive during the day (headlights must be on during the day in Sweden).

I have installed a "light booster kit" to bypass the standard loom, in theory

giving better output. The relays in this kit are controlled by the original leads

to the lefthand headlight. I will try using the righthand leads instead tomorrow,

but other than that, any ideas on what to try?

    Cheers, Tomas

  6. It looks like a standard rim but widened outwards if you get what I mean.

OK, thanks. I used to have Wolf wheels on an 110 I had a couple of years ago and

they are very heavy as they are, I guess they just enhanced the one ton wheels by

cutting some weight with the holes and called them Wolf... :-)

I think I'll go for the Wolf wheels then, I like the look with the holes better :)

    Cheers,

  7. Hello, a couple of days ago I put a mailorder on a oil seal for the hand brake/output flange.

I ordered a FRC1780 but today I got my hands on a parts book and it says FRC7043.

Now I'm confused, which is it?

    It's a 1986 90 SALLDVAC7AA264476.

It's Ex-MOD and the engine has been replaced, havent checked yet wether the gearbox has been changed too.

What gearbox number interval would be correct for the original box?

    Cheers, Tomas

  8. I could get one here in UK & post it over, if you cannot find a suitable belt in your area.

Thanks a lot for the offer, very nice of you :-)

But hopefully I'll find it tomorrow, I have another shop to try out!

    Cheers, Tomas

  9. I am in Sweden, with different brands/codes, but now that I know that it should be 11x1025 I should be able to find it.

Problem in the shop I was in today (Biltema) was that the belts were all sorted by car model, not size :-( And only some of them were marked with size, the rest just with a part number. Early Defenders are very rare in Sweden so they do not appear in the recommendation tables, but next time I will look for a Disco I (common here) belt and compare it to the old one.

    Thanks, Tomas

  10. I was in the car parts shop today, and the only belt I found that was 1025mm was marked "9,5x1025mm".

I need one thats marked "11x1025mm" as I'm guessing that the leading "11" in "Dayco 11A1025C" is the width, correct?

    Cheers, Tomas
