  1. Mine was the same, spilt window rubbers to rear load bay windows and alpines.

Fixed them, stripped the rear to get to the floor, allowed the carpet and sound deadener to dry in the sun.

OK now, get it sorted though, my floor had just started to show a few brown patches, treated it before it ate my floor.

  2. Whatever you do, don't use Britpart springs.

I fitted them less than a year ago and the rears have dropped already !

Changing to the Blue's this weekend.

Regards lift, I upgraded to Gas struts and Std height HD springs, that gave me a 30mm lift and was cheap to do.

    Good luck

  3. 300Tdi Auto, I noticed a little bit more grunt low down especially when cold, coupled with a de-cat mad a small noticeable difference at low revs. Don't expect huge power gains

    Same here

  4. Here's the story -

Had the intermitent starting problem, not turning over, just nothing. (occasionally)

Got more frequent, leave it a few minutes and it fires, then it get's longer before it'll start.

Got on here and read some posts - checked my battery / Green box appears in tact and conected and secure , can't find any fuse issues (that I can see) , bonnet switch ok , key fob battery replaced.

Its a 96 300TDI Auto Disco XS , Twin button fob.

Then I'm thinking "Spider" read the process and viewed Bogbuster pics etc, right I'll sort it myself.

Off to Halfords , got my manual, up at 8am with a day off.

Followed the process step by step, (great post btw)

This was time consuming but quite easy.

Then, excited, I pull away the consule, guess what.....no @@@@@@~~~g Spider.

I don't think I'm fly by wire as the cable operates direct from the pedal (pic), how do I know if it's EDC and if it is , what's the fix ?

Here's some pics, I have found some things that may help (or be unrelated)

The top of the pump has three wires that appear to have been cut at some point (pic).

There is a black connecter block hanging redundent under the drivers side.(pic)

When I turn the ignition there is a small clicking coming from the lower left passenger footwell.

There is one positive to my woe full story so far, I have replaced the little bulb on my heater controls so they'll be illumiontade at night now :)

Here's some pic's, anyone local to me , North Wales ?

Shall I put the dash back together ?

  5. Doesn't sound like your friend needs 2" for the use you've indicated.

A standard Disco will surprise you where it can go, 2" is for "serious" O/R.

I've seen a lot of lifted LR's that are never really used to their capability.

I have replaced my shocks with Gas items and fitted H/D std height springs F&R, that's given me 25/30mm and a better ride.

I have a 96 300TDI Auto, never been stuck and regularly handles tough green lanes and Play days.

Plus, a 2" lift isn't just bolting on the springs and dampers, there's more cost and work ie. exteneded brake pips etc. Keep the suspension simple and effective and spend the extra on good tyres.

Get him to consider what he really needs.

Good luck, keep the Green oval the right way up :)

  6. Keep looking and be prepared to travel for the right one.

    I got a 97 Auto XS with 78K , paid £2k, that was 18m ago.

Good one's are fetching £2.5k to £3k now.

You might want to up your budget or buy something that's not "mint".

Rot & Rust are the big enemy obviously, engines go forever.

Be prepared to get handy with the tool box, it's part of the fun, I love mine.

    Good luck

PS. Try Ebay, a few tidy one's on there at the moment, not a great time to buy now though, most of the good stuff (and not so) went in September

  7. Hi all, 97 TDi 300 Auto.

Won't start, or turn over, it's like the battery is flat.

The battery is fully charged, everything works and I've tested the output.

    Starter motor isn't jammed.

I have had over the last few months an occasional issue when I turn the key, nothing happens for a second or two, then she kicks up no problem.

It's like the gear lever is in "Drive", but it's definately in "Park".

    Any idea's ?

Could it be the Immobilizer ?

    Cheers Mitch
