  1. i guess I would have to remove everything again. the last time I did the same job. I took out the swivel housing together with the stub axle still bolted on and put back the same way. then I did the shimming of the top pivot bearing. I will try this method again.

  2. Hello,

After replacing the axle half shaft seal in the swivel ball on my defender Td5. upon fixing back the stub axle the entire swivel housing is sieze. it cannot swing. Is there something wrong with my installation.

    Installation method.

    1. 1. Changed axle shaft seal in swivel ball.
    2. 2. tighten swivel ball back to axle housing
    3. 3. install swivel housing using shorter top pivot screws
    4. 4. insert new axle shaft and cv joint. ( axle shaft had a groove at the seal area and the cv joint broke while removing)
    5. 5. fix on stub axle.

at this stage the entire swivel housing is siezed.

any advice what is the problem?

    regards

  3. HI,

My 90 TD5 recently develops a irregular vibration. When I plug in the OBD, it reads injector 2 & 5 Peaked. At time if I read the live data, injector 2 gives a compenstion about +0-15. Has my injector gone foul on cylinder 2 & 5? Is changing the injectors out a manageable task? Any links here?

    Regards

  4. Hi,

I am having a sluggish throttle response on my Defender TD5 MY2006. On a move off, I need to rev much higher if not the vehicle will judder. If I rev it, it would not. Clutch has been changed and now under 8000km.

During driving, I can floor the throttle but the engine just rev up slowly. It revs well on stationary.

Would like know if anyone has this problem before.

    From Hawkeye Live Data.

    -MAF Idles at 46kg/hr

-Driver Demand 1 4.6V on Idle

-Driver Demand 2 0.46V on Ilde

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Regards

  5. Hi,

Had a problem today. My Td5 starts to vibrate more than the usual. Hook it with the OBD( Haweye). No faults read. But the Idle RPM Error is pretty erratic. And Injector 1 Roughnes is the most erratic as compare the rest. The rest are showing -2 to +5 and Injector 1 is -5 to +14.

    A few Questions:

    1. Is Injector 1 causing the usual vibration? If so, do I need to change that injector?

    2. Any procedure( which to remove first, torque reading and things to watch out for) to have that injector remove. Thought doing on my own.

    Any contributions is appreciated.

    THanks

  6. Hi,

It does not move to hot when cranking. I notice, when I crank it. The engine will fire up alittle then afterwards will died off by itself. And I notice the fuel pump is not running after the engine died. Then when I switch off the completely and later turn it to 'ON'the fuel pump will run again.

COuld it be my fuel cut off giving problem?

  7. try the purging procedure, ign on push throttle peddle down to floor 5 times, MIL light will flash, 30 sec purge will start

with a boost / jump pack on the battery

    check the ecu harness etc

check the earth from loom to gearbo and chassis

check the oi to see if theres diesel in there

is the car imobilsed, whats the status of the red light on the speedo

    Hi,

THanks for the advice. Tried the purging. Let the punp run with throttle fully depressed. For your method I am not familiar. Where is the MIL light?

As for the rig being immbolised, can it still crank? If is immbolised I need the EKA( the codes for the number of turns using the key)?

  8. Hi,

My TD5 90 has failed to start up. Able to crank, there is firing but it does not start up. I plug in the Hawkeye. Error message

    Fault: 3183 Injector 1 Peak

    Charge Long Logged

This goes for injector 2 to 5.

    Fault: 3191 Injector 1 Peak

    Charge Short Logged

This goes for injector 2 to 5 also.

Could anyone advice what's the cause and where is the fault from?

I am still able to crank the engine but it does not start. Battery is old but still good.

    Regards

    Jack

Manual says you need to remove the fan but I've done it without, take the top guard panel off and feed the belt round the fan and various pulleys, fairly obvious which route it takes. If you stand in front of bumper and look down from above, the tensioner is the bottom left hand pulley (nearest PAS box if RHD). You need a 15mm spanner or socket on a long bar to move it against spring pressure towards the PAS box, easier if you have someone who can hold the tensioner back while you feed the belt round.

  10. Hi,

Posted last week on removing my fuel tank on my Defender TD5 due to a leak. Had removed the tank with helpful advice from the members here. Did some testing, the leak is apparently from fuel pump. The 4 nozzles are not leaking. Need advice what could be causing the leak. Could it be the seal between the tank and the fuel pump lock ring?

    Thanks

    Jack
