  1. thanks for the reply, im going to change the oils in the ird and gearbox and see if this make any difference at all, then hopefully change both front wheel bearings, Mick
  2. Freeland drives great its a 1999 td, tyres are all good road tyres on standard 16" rims , car is stock, but when i reach 30mph i get a whine from the front, nothing to bad , 30mph whine starts 40mph whine is alot less changing gear makes no differance to noise tone or level on road or grass same noise, power down or power off makes no difference. clutch in or out no difference, in or out of gear no difference enegin on or off same noise (only tried this once to get the result) im thinking may be a wheel bearing , but would like some advise if possible, if it was the diff i thing it would change tone , this is a constant one tone whine, and does not seam like its at you feet or in the tunnel, its been like it since i brought the car 3 months ago and has got no worse, any advice please Mick
  3. Do the Freelander 2 wheels fit the Freelander 1 , has anyone fitted 20" range rover wheels , any info would be great, Mick
  4. Hi how easy is it to change these , are there and issues i should look for, i have changed the drop links but still getting a bumping noise over pot holes ect,so it must be the bushes, i have them on order but just asking advice, i have looked and can see them from the engine compartment , but not had it on the ramp yet, Mick
  5. Hi There, new to the forum, im in the midlands and have just brought a 1999 v reg td freelander 3 dr, so far i love the car, it was brought for my wife and she also loves it, after many weeks of reading bad reveiews and thinking weather or not i wanted the hassle ,i finally brought her one, im quite handy with the spanners so think i should be able to manage quite well, Apart from the fact its mint and drive nice ive had the following problems in the first 2 weeks(bear in mind they are going to be why the guy sold it in the first place) Bad starting = replaced 3 glow plugs A ok £30 (as you know the fourth is a pig be hind the pump) Deisel Leak on return pipe, tex book deisel problem = new pipe £3.99 Leak on power steering pump,= Nipped up the back plate and lucas stop leak £10 CL on drivers door not opening = dealer knew about this from day one and replaced it free of charge = £0 Full service by me £100 all oils and filters. then i found out the heater matrix was leaking, this must have been leaking a while and had Radweld in, me changing the antifreez brought the problem back, any how call to the dealer and he agreed to fix free of charge ,can got booked in and i got more worried every day about them removeing the dash, then causing me more problems with broken clips speedo not working and the general screw driver marks. so i agreed for him just to supplie the matrix and i would fit, and this is what i did. 1. first bypass the matrix under the bonnet (car can still be driven 2. remove 4" flexy from heater 3. remove 2" pipe to window screen dimister under dash 4. remove the large black plastci moulding vent by unbolting the mounts by the carpet, 5. remove the glove box you now have good access 6. remove 2 screw from the side of matrix 7. remove screw from pipe retainer on matrix 8. with a large set of cutters ,squash and cut through the damaged matrix pipes. 9. pullpipes out from under the bonnet, 10, slide matrix out of the heater this has taken 15min and the matrix is out, now on the new matrix be careful and cut the main pipes off , leaving enough straight to get a hose on and a clip. make 20 flexy hoses up to the original length of the matrix pipe, you should now have matrix 2 flexy pipe with solid pipes at the other end, refit the matrix 1. slide matrix back in heater 2. bend the flexy hose so you can poke the solid ends back through the bulk head, 3. refit side cover on matrix 4. refit glove box 5. refit heater pipes 6. connect pipes under bonnet 7, sit back with engine running and a cup of tea while it all get warm , All done max time an hour and no dash out, as i say Hello everyone and i hope this helps somone out, although i have had these little problems i am still very happy with my freelander. Mick
