  1. I got a recon one from paddocks that came with a leak! The bloke at national power steering was very helpful and offered to tell me how to fix it with PTFE!!! or replace it for me. I got it replaced and it came on a full right lock, I managed to get it centralised but it was a pain in the backside.

Paddocks recon are cheap but im not that sure how good the quality is!

Its not a complicated thing to replace but you need two people really. I wouldnt like to try and hold it in placewhilst getting the first few bolts back in on my own.

I have changed a seal in the past on one and it lasted a week!!

I have just fitted a 200 Tdi safari Snorkel to my 300 Tdi Disco... I traced a local 4x4 garage's template. I will see if I can scan it so that you can print it off... something that I was intending to do anyway as I spent a while looking for one. Let me have a go at work and I'll see what I can do. Worst case is a do another tracing and send that to you.

As for the fitting, I think that you'll have to cut the hole out in the side of the engine bay. There should be an indentation from when the 200's used it, so its a case of cutting that out and adapting some sort of filter to work. I used the 200 Tdi airbox and pipework and loads of silicon.

One thing I did have to do was make the air box inlet pipe OD bigger as it didn't fit into the snorkel snuggly... I had some rubber boot that just fitted with a bit of streaching and that did the job, again, loads of silicon. Not sure why this didn't fit better, I may have been missing somthing.

I haven't "taken the plunge" and tested the snorkel out, but have full confidence in it.

Can take some pics if required.

If I could print it that would be fantastic! I only ever fitted a 200 onto aa 200 disco but I remember then I had to use a bit of inner tube rubber in the joint to make it a tight fit!

I know there will be some extra cutting but im not to worried! I just dont want to drill the holes in the wrong place!!

    THanks again,

    Mike

  3. I have bought a 200tdi safari snorkel and am going to fit it to my 300tdi disco! I have no templates or instructions at all. I have fitted one to a 200 before (and found the instructions on the safari website) but could really do with a template?

Has anyone fitted one to a 300? Is my best bet to get the 200 airbox and pipes etc?

Anyway, im relatively new to this forum and I know im on the scrounge a bit early! ;) If anyone has a template for a 200tdi snorkel I can borrow for a day or 2 I would be very grateful. I am happy to trace it and return it the next day!

    Any help gratefuly received!

    Cheers,

    Mike

  4. You may hear the ABS pump kick in as a sort of buzzing noise? It can activate when it shouldnt and as said above you feel it as a vibration through the pedal. If this happens its usualy because of damaged to the toothed ring on one wheel.

When the wheel bearings are poorly adjusted the front sensors work out of their locating bush, I dont know if this could cause it. I would start by checking all wheel bearings are good and properly adjusted. After that you could try the paperclip trick and see if it stored a fault code for a corner but its probably unlikely!

To be honest, mine does the very same thing. Once in a blue moon I feel the ABS activate, always when im going slowly and braking gently and its on and off for a split second then doesnt do it for days/weeks. I have chosen to ignore it!

  5. All the spares are on eBay, but if it's smoking I'd imagine the glow plug is working.

Im not so sure, when it smokes it seems to be just clouds of unburnt fuel. The exhaust doesnt even get hot! The time I did get it to fire, there was no smoke (well no more then you would expect anyway). We shall soon see anyway, I have ordered one from the local VW dealer and have my fingers crossed!

  6. Yes! It does seem to be the CV that was stopping it! I just cant work out why or like you said, what i have done wrong. I am just going to put it back together slowly checking the lock as I go.

It cant be a million miles out of place though because I managed to get the shim and circlip on the end of the shaft? Bloody weird it is...

  7. Can anywone hazard a guess as to what I have cocked up? I replaced the swivel bearings in my early 110 today on the offside hub. Its the old style with a bearing at the bottom and a pin / bush at the top all of which I replaced.

All seemed well untill I drove it, Ive only got half a full lock when turning left, it doesnt get anywhere near the lock stop? It must be something stupid, I will be having another look tomorrow! I didnt even split the ball joint, left it on and just supported it on a stand while i changed the race etc in the ball?

Ive driven artics with a better turning circle.....:rolleyes:

    Any tips gratefuly received! :D

Should have said, I also changed the CV joint?

    Cheers,

    Mike

  8. If you could get me a part number that would be great! It does seem simple enough, I think it can only be the glow plug thats faulty. I had it heating a bucket until it was at 85 degrees and it cut out (so the water temp sensor must be working). I figure if the flame sensor doo dar didnt work it wouldnt fire at all. The ECU seems to do as it should, quick self test on blower motor etc and I still have the ECU controling the fuel pump (which it seems to be doing fine) so im semi confident i just need a glow plug...

I will update this thread with the fitting to the landy. Im in two minds, the easy option is add it to the existing coolant as a booster heater as it was designed but putting it in the back is very tempting!

  9. Hello there! 1st post and im on the scrounge for info already! Can you tell me where you got the glow plug for the heater? Ive got one of these heaters that I want to fit in my 110. Ive got it wired up to a battery running on the bench, the wiring is pretty simple. It fired up the first time after i took it all apart and cleaned it, now it just smokes like mad and doesnt start (the original fault). I assume the brake cleaner / wd40 etc i was cleaning with helped it fire the first time and it really needs a glow plug?

It doesnt have a built in water pump, I wanted to use it to preheat the engine on a cold morning but it looks like that is out! Any tips? Mines off a 2002 galaxy.

    Cheers,

    Mike
