Well its been a long time with no update, put that down to time and money. However the bonus of Covid is that i got to spend 8 weeks in my garage isolating with my loved one (Truck not Mrs).

I've reworked the tilting cab a little, worked on the engine clearances to the diff (still need to cut & weld the sump to improve), but mainly worked on the technical area (is what i'm calling it) Its a structure behind the cab that holds batteries, air compressor, hydraulic pump and there will be 2x 60L water tanks.

    I'll post some pictures soon.

On other developments - I always wished i'd bought the longer 6x6 chassis, and am in discussion with a chap to buy a rolling chassis, but fret not all of my work can be trasnfered over.

Consider getting a tgb 20 chassis, that way you can get the 606 to sit behind the front diff like the B30 does. I extended my tgb13/14 chassis by 400mm for that reason, no need to cut the sump for clearance + you end up with a reasonable length rear tailshaft

Rear bowl om648 sump cleaned up and oil pump fitted, then sump fitted. Dieselmeken 7.5mm element pump with external Alda fitted and timed up. Waiting for cam cover gaskets in order to fit cam cover and injector pocket o rings then can fit injector lines

Great project retropower!  Wondering how you will bolt the ML box to the om648 sump, I'm doing a similar motor/ trans conversion into a Volvo 6x6. The om648 sump has a different bolt pattern to the Om 606 where it bolts to the trans

    G'day Nick!

Now I have the tank out, I have a better understanding of the suggestions earlier in the thread by Dave W and FF. I much prefer a solution where I don't have to do any adaption, so I do like the idea of replacing the in-tank TD5 pump and sender with a pick up and sender. That would leave me free to use any fuel pump my heart desired. Do you have a model number for the Bosch?

Ha! But they are soooooo pretty. :)

On my V8 I used a Bosch 044 pump that was common on Holdens here. I picked up one from the wreckers (breakers?) and mounted it on the chassis rail. I put a filter before the pump as I had a steel long range tank. All up I think it cost me $60 to set up and worked perfectly for 15 years.  The wiring that went to the original RRC pump was just hooked up to the Bosch one. I'm not sure how the td5 pump is wired but I'm guessing it would be similar.

    Please do!

I'm (slowly) doing the same conversion so I'd be interested to see what rakeway have done for the shaft? as that's the next bit for me drive-train wise. How long is their adaptor face to face? Edited to add that I've machined my own adaptor, albeit no where near as pretty!

The adaptor is 160mm face to face so with ML box total is 700mm. I havn't got the shaft yet as I've asked them increase the diameter of the shaft and respline my input gear from the 10 spline LR to a larger diameter greater spline count that they do for the tremec manual box.  The Volvo 6X6 will be about 3 ton in weight with camper box on the back so I wanted a beefy shaft for the 606 torque, this could be overkill but I wanted the drive-train as reliable as possible.  Will post some pics when I get the shaft

Well it moves... A short lap of the garage was achieved last night. Gearbox & controller behaving. No leaks. I need to reduce the PS pump pressure - Merc puts out 115 bar and my GM700 steering box i think is rated for 75, nothing blew but a quick cut of the spring will sort that.

Still lots to do, but i think i deserved the morale boost of seeing it move for the first time in 2 years.

Congratulations HoSS!!  Did you end up raising the motor to get more sump/axle clearance or is that a job for later?  And yes please post a video of its first burnout:)
