Hello all,
I went to look at a Freelander yesterday with my Dad who's looking to buy. It's a 55 plate 2.0l diesel. I noticed in the engine bay that there is some oil coming from the turbo pipes (I guess that's what they are!!). The garage had their engineer have a look and he reckons it's not unusual for these engines to have this problem - apparently the rubber ducts perish and as a consequence leak. Obviously these can be replaced and that doesn't seem too complex, so what I need to know is:
A) Are there any long-term dire side effects from this (I doubt but I have to ask)
B) Is the garage telling the truth and this is a common fault and just life.
Hopefully a picture will display here - you can see the leaking joint in question and also spatter on the main positive cable adjacent.
Thanks all - it was a straight car so we'll go ahead once we know about this.
Tom
