    Overheating?

No I didn't know there was an improved stat relocation kit. But I did fit the new cap and it made a big difference.Got the car up to normal temp, then let it idle for 1/2 hr to simulate a traffic jam (worst scenario I think)The water level only rose by about 2 mm rather that the 25mm before the new cap. I think that fluctuation which is pretty small may be due to trapped air as Les suggested although I think there has to be some expansion. But the good news the temp remained absolutly stable the whole while. I shall continue to bleed for a while to get out any remaining trapped air. Something by the way I noticed before fitting the new cap was the top hose was quite soft and easily squezzed when running now its a lot firmer which to me says its running at a better pressure therefore a higher water temp can be maintained.

    Overheating?

Yes Les, about 4 times which suggests there may be some air left in there though. I will get a new cap to be on the safe side as they are fairly cheap.

    Overheating?

That suggests that the cap is no good then, as it certainly rises as the temperature goes up. Would you agree?
  4. I have finally got my Freelander going again after a head gasket change, starts and runs well. But it seems to warm up fast and I notice that the level in the expansion tank goes up quite a bit then drops down once the fan starts. I have checked the oil and no more water seems to be getting in although I have only done about 10 miles any suggestions as to possible cause? If when the gasket went and the temp got high could that impact the expansion tank cap or Thermostat?
  5. Thanks Les I got it right, it just that top wir to the sensor seems veery tight
  6. Question Les which sensor on the water inlet to the head has what wires? The 2 sensors appear the same I wonder if I have them crossed over at present the top sensor has 2 wire black and white whilst the lower one blue.
  7. Following on from my post about the starting after gasket change, I think it may be the injector manifold, I notice there is emulsified oil residue in there and wondered if anyone could direct me to a stripdown guide. I suspect the injectors are allowing to much fuel through and flooding the cylinders when I try to start any thoughts on that?
  8. Still trying no luck as yet, checked the valve timing once again spot on, do you think water ould get into the injectors some how, whatever it is it floods straight away.
  9. Difficult to tell if its water or fuel, the gasket went badly over the weekend emptying the water in no time. It left residue in the inlet maniflod and everywhere.I shall keep trying if I could just get a couple going then I realise it will clear iself. I had thought about the WD40 but was not sure it was a good idea. I have also marked the reservoir and left it over night to make certain nothing else is ceeping by. How I hate head gasket problems. Thanks Les good advice I shall persevere.
  10. I have checked that and its pretty hard to get the ignition wrong, cable length and also I did not remove the leads from the distributor cap, thanks for the suggestion though.
  11. Today I changed the head gasket on my Freelander 1.8i, all went well and I chcked carefully that my valve timing was correct, now it seems that it won't start. it attempts to fire then the plugs get wet. It seems that its cyclinders 1 & 2 that are the wettest loocking through the plug hole. anyone have any suggestions for drying them out or reason why it won't run it has a good spark.
