  1. Hi Guys, its taken me a while to get around to looking at this, you know the story, demanding red head wife, 2 kids etc etc. Anyway - in the end i had the fuel gauge dropping every time i breaked, indicated, put the lights on and all it was was the earth to the rear windscreen wiper had rusted up and needed replacing. As it happens i was replacing the rear door and noticed it by chance, thanks for all of your help.
  2. your assumption is right, many thanks for the idiots guide, just what I needed.
  3. sorry, a bit of a novice here, (1995 defender 110) vulcan bomber - are these wires likely to be behind the intrument console? reiny - fuse for the petrol gauge?? stuck - voltage stabiliser - haven't a clue what that is but I'll look it up Many thanks to all
  4. Bit of an usual one really - my fuel gauge drops to zero when I brake or indicate, and then come back up when a release or cancel, it doesn't affect performance just annoying. Can anyone shine light on what could be causing this - many thanks Kevin
  5. 1995 defender 110 300tdi - with metallic epsom green body, white/creme roof and at the moment white/creme steel wheels in need of a refurb. Question is - should I stick with steels or go for boost alloys? whats everyone's opinion. With regards to refurbing the wheels here's my thinking, put spare on temporarily as I need to use it everyday, deflate tyre but leave them on which should hopefully move the tyre away from the rim, heavy masking around the rim and then hammerite rust stopper prime coat and then blast away with aerosol. Is this going to look like a bodge!!! many thanks Kevin
  6. Hi All Quick one really - does anyone know the colour code for the white / creme roof on a 1995 110 defender. Its the classic land rover colour I just cannot find reference to it anywhere. Sorry I haven't got a piccy but could post one tonight. Many thanks Kevin
  7. Many thanks for that, is there any reason you cannot use a thicker ply, then if I want to put a folding shelf on it or a cargo net compartment then all I have to do is screw it into the wood.
  8. I'm hanging a new (well second hand) rear door over the next week or so, I'm a complete novice so please bear with me. couple of things really, can I do this be myself or do I need someone to hold the thing whilst I screw it in. Secondly has anyone used 6-8mm ply to make a panel for it. I was going to jigsaw one out then get some grey vinyl and bob's your uncle. I was also going to put a folding shelf on it as I thought it would be handy just for general use, camping, diving etc. will this work or am I missing something obvious here? Lastly - sorry to go on, its a 1995 110 defender 300tdi in metallic epsom green and I've been told that the epsom green pearl that hycote supply will not match the defender, is this a tall tale? Theres 2 codes when I look up the paint code HAF LRC 961 or HAF LRC 961 LY - what the difference between these 2. Any help a real bonus, many thanks Kevin
  9. I have all seats belted, and have a cubby box rather than the 12th seat. I do use all 11 now and again but I'm just thinking, the bench seats at the back (1995 model) are effectively 2 seats, ok theres 3 belts on each seat but there question was how many seats do you have, not how many seat belts do you have. Would this work do you think, if this is the case then its a 7 seater................. This is a weak argument isn't it!!!!!
  10. I have just tried insuring my 110, so frustrating, you go through 15 minutes of questions with then all and suddenly they say they cannot insure vehicles with 11 seats. I've tried every insurance company in the land rover monthly mag but to no avail. I'm currently with footman james but unfortunately they will not keep no claims bonuses going. I have 9 years of bonuses which only last 2 years before they are no longer accepted so am i stuffed or is their a saviour out there. Many thanks Kevin
  11. Hi there, I changed my exhaust, well the middle and the back section on my defender 110 at the weekend, all straight forward as you would expect however when I now apply the brakes the fuel gauge drops and when I release it it fires back up again. Is this linked do you think to my changing the exhaust or is it just coincidence. Any ideas what can be causing it? Many thanks Kevin
  12. Many thanks guys, i'll hopefully have a crack at it this weekend
  13. I feel so incompetant when reading this forum, all you guys out there seem to know everything about doing work on landrovers and I stress even at the thought of changing the oil. anyway I thought I'd bite the bullit and ask at the risk of potential sighs and possible disgust. 2 issues really 1. can I change the back 2 sections of exhaust on a landrover defender 110 300tdi on my own without the use of ramps etc and if so do I need any jointing compond, gaskets etc to do it. 2. I have a clicking type of sound which seems to be coming from underneath the footwell between the first and second row, it get faster the faster I go, any ideas what it can be? Many thanks Kevin
  14. Hi there, I've just got a price from a local landrover mechanic near me, he's based in mere, north dorset so not a million miles away. To fit only is about £100 and will take a day. Haven't tried him yet or been to see his set up so cannot personally vouch for his work but he came recommended. His name is Doug 07900444429. The cross member i plan to get from MIB components who seem to make ones that actually fit - or so I've been told, if anyone out there knows better please tell me before I lash out £145+VAT. Many thanks Kevin
