  1. I have had exactly the same issue with my 200tdi. My mechanic had to replace the pipework on one side, and he said when he removed the pipes and tubes, dark slime came out, followed by brake fluid...

My 200tdi brake calipers are made of alloy, I am sure your's are too. You can buy 'rebuild' kits for brakes, just the pots and the seals, it works out to about 80 quid on ebay for four brakes, then add the time for you to put them back together. If yours are as crappy as mine, your pipes will be rusted/corroded away too! :) And your rubber hoses might be shot too.

My brakes now run ok, but I think there is the same sludge on the other side, because there is slight pull when I brake.

It's cheapest to get the refurb kit, and give to a mechanic to do, because brake calipers are expensive!

  2. Hi! I live in Crawley, West Sussex (yeah yeah) and I desperately need a few clutch push rod retaining clips. My Disco is in the garage have the clutch done, but I have no clip right now, and they break easily so he wants a few in case he breaks some trying to clip them in place.

    Can anyone out there help?

    My mobile is 07581 566274.

    Francis.

  3. Well. My discovery brakes are causing nightmares. We have had the pads out, lubed the caliper pistons. As I drive along, it's like they are pressurizing but by bit, until the pedal is totally stiff with zero travel. Both side on the front get hot, and lock up.

It's a 1993 Discovery. Anyone got any ideas?

  4. I bought an exhaust from ebay, end and middle silencers and pipes.

The centre pipe is flanged to accommodate the end pipe but the end pipe does not completely fit into that, and add to that I am now being told that my 1994 200tdi is actually a 300tdi and it's the wrong exhaust....

But there add on ebay says exhaust for 200tdi AND 300tdi???????

So is the exhaust for the 200tdi the same as the 300tdi?

Here's the link to the add.

The top right corner of the picture, the top pipe in the picture, that bit of pipe does not fit into the bottom pipe pictured, except for maybe 1 inch. I can't see this is right at all?

I am being asked to fork out a further 20 quid for a courier to collect and send me out another pipe because I ordered the wrong pipe according to them.... I am not best pleased.

I will post pictures of what I mean when I get in at 9pm tonight. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, is it a better option to say sod it and have the things welded together and just whack it on anyway?

  5. Hi everyone

I have tried all the breakers yards near me (and not near me!) looking for a few bits for my defender and none of them have any defenders in!

Is there some website of somthing that lists breakers that might do landrovers??

im near brighton if anyone happens to know any breakers that would have defenders near there?

    Thanks in advance

    Sam

Forget breakers yards. They are all too aware of the value of Defenders. Because they are like mechanno, they just strip them. Even a smashed (and I mean rolled and totalled) Defender goes for 1000's on feebay.

I used the first one ( I think ) and had prices ranging from more than I would pay at Halfords to really cheap! You get called by loads of breakers yards with their price on the part you are after if they have it.

  6. I am posting this in this section, as I want some good ideas on mods, and I would imagine the Series section is more for people who want to maintain their Series vehicle, not cut it to bits.

I have outside my front door, a Disco Mk1 V8 that I cannot sell!

I want to know how hard it would be to either A) take my Series 3 FFR 109 with hoops and canvass (I love it!) and transplant it onto the v8 disco chassis, so I have the look and utilitity of my soon to be defender pretender, and the power and handling of a V8 disco? Or B) take the full running gear including engine and auto box and put it onto the Series chassis. I prefer to do the former, as the latter will leave me with leaf springs and I want to eventually have dislocating springs.

Can this be done? I would then of course, put an LPG kit on it.

And lastly are there any good places to go to have this done if it is possible?

  7. Hello thankyou keep a eye on it should be more picks on today just fitted a 300 tdi snorkel etc all ways good for idea's.

How far you plan to take it in to defender land?

    David ;)

I had a V8 110. I sold it due to rot and no money Then I ventured into Disco territory.

    MISTAKE.

I am now the proud owner (when I pick it up) of a 24v FFR 109 ex army.

I AM interested in swapping for a Diesel 110 though, even though I haven't even driven this thing yet. It's a 2.25 engine, canvass and hoops, no roof. Looking forward to driving it. :) And being ex army, the bulkhead looks new, probably is new.

As for defender land, I am starting to feel it would be wrong to do this. It is what it is. A Series 3. May as well enjoy it, sell it on to someone who will appreciate it, and buy a 110 CSW instead of hacking up a piece of British history.

  8. Ok. Found a guy who is prepared to sell me what ever I want to cut off a really nice disc that got totalled in an accident, so I cam going to angle grind the entire rear floor out, and hav that welded in, need also to cut out the rear floor supports and rear body cross member.

50 quid is a lot better than 200+ and I don't mind putting in the effort. Now to find a welder!

  9. I see what you mean. The pas is drive on the same disc as the alternator, and the belt is pretty worn/loose. What kind of effort is required to switch belts? What do I have to remove. is there an 'easy' way!

I have just done the alternator and obviously to have steering that doesn't squeal or fight me would be great!

  10. Ok. I am in need of a WELDER. Not one of those YTS welders who can make blobby messes, but a GOOD welder who can do a nice job on my disco boot floor!

If there's anyone out there on the forum who lives locally to me, who wants to earn some money doing this for me, drop me a line on 07805 719274. I do not want to give it to my mechanic, his welder, is, well, shi..... not good and after the botch job he did on my 110, he's not getting his grease monkey hands on the disco.

So, give us a call, text us, whatever. I was thinking of having the floor done out with sheet steel instead of the normal factory replacement floor. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks!

  11. Hi everyone.

I have just replaced my alternator, and still there are drops in power as I turn the steering wheel when not moving, like a belt is slipping or the power steering is not functioning properly.

Each time the power steering becomes weak as I turn the steering wheel, the red battery light comes on.

Can anyone give me any ideas? Is it as simple as the power steering pump?

    Thanks in advance!
