  1. i will drive in though as its only a 30 minute round trip (not including the ques) and you can amke sure you are getting what you want and yes. Bob is a legend...

I once said that Bob knew the part numbers of Bodicea's chariot....

He's a good shot with a rubber bush across the counter ....

  2. It's 3 phase as it refers to different wiring configurations if o remember. You can buy rotary inverters to maker this sort of thing work on eBay.

Not sure I would want to work under a lift that I had put together from a bunch of bits I'd never seen working though !!

  3. I've just picked up the 4x4 jack from Halfords tonight, along with a tall tool chest and all for £80....

The jack is £79.99 inshore and they have 15% off til Sunday however if you go online and reserve and collect it's only £39.99 and you stil get 15% off....!

Same sort of thing with the toolchest which should be £110

Jack seems well built so I'll wait and see....

  4. Boost diaphragm maybe? Is the timing spot on?

Boost diaphragm would indicate I have a turbo, which I don't... Timing is spot on, or as close as you can get with a Zeus timing set...

This is a 200Di installation, with the turbo currently lounging on the floor in the garage !!

@ Les - lift pump is definitely ok, as I checked it as you suggested a while back, not realising I had the optional spacer installed !

All seems to point to the injection pump itself, which I may change as it has the leaky spindle issue anyway.

  5. I have the same problem with my 200tdi. It runs perfectly up to about 1500 - 200 rpm, but it will not rev further than that. I have replaced the lift pump twice, all fuel lines, filter etc. I have put a direct diesel feed from a container through an electric fuel pump straigt to the injection pump but the problem remains the same.

I have already bought another injection pump, because I have no clue anymore. But haven't had time to fit that, so the 200tdi has been sitting in the garage for 1,5 years now :-(

So please keep us informed, because I'm very interested in a simple solution. :-)

    Right.....

Quick job to replace the lift pump without the spacer, and runs much better !

But.... I've still got the judder/misfire/lumpy running at full revs, and I'm sure this is when its just before the limiter on the injection pump so I assume it must be something to do with the injection pump.

I'm inclined to try another injection pump, but I can't face the hassle of removing the old one either !

    Any other ideas anyone...?

    Cheers

  6. Yep. you are correct. You dont need the spacer and so the pump is probably not operating as the arm is not engaging on the cam. For some reason, land rover supply the spacer with any lift pump they sell as far as i can make out.

Methinks that is coming out tomorrow then !!

I remember it being in the box, but it was 3 weeks between stripdown and rebuild and the old ones went in the bin !!

Its got all the hallmarks of fuel starvation so hopefully this will sort it.

  7. Cheers Western, as usual a perfect answer !!

This is a top view of what I have, which makes me think a spacer is not required !!

    fp200tdi.jpg?t=1284845013

With the spacer in place, am I correct in thinking that the lift pump won't be operating at full range so I will be getting fuel starvation ??

    Cheers

  8. Evening all

I've got a problem with my 200tdi that seems like it's misfiring and I'm narrowing it down to a fueling issue. The injectors have been swapped for a newer set but the problem still occurs at high revs.

I rebuilt most of the engine before fitting it but I'm now wondering if it's fuel starvation at top revs a it idles and runs perfect to about 3000rpm.

Question is, when the lift pump is fitted to the engine, does it have a spacer plate or not...? I'm just wondering if the spacer is stopping the full travel on the lift pump and before I take it out I thought I would ask !!

Or am I barking up the wrong tree....?

  9. I have been looking at a series 2A which is for sale that has had a 200TDi motor fitted, along with several other mods and have been trying to get an idea of insurance costs but am finding it a bit of a mine-field, could anyone suggest where to try for a sensible quote.

Also, do I have to start with zero no-claims as it is not replacing a vehicle that has been insured previously.

    Frank Pickles

Just beaten my insurance by £25 for this year - now £102..!! :-)

  10. I did this not long back and I paid Richard Hall at Glencoyne engineering £50 to modify my flywheel housing with all the correct studs, dowels and cap bolts, and fit a new crank seal in the process.

The rest is straight bolt in stuff, alternator needs a couple of mods if you want to use your series one as you need to lose the PAS pump. Other than that, its just a case of taking the old engine mounts and bolting them to the 200Tdi block and everything lines up..!

  11. Afternoon...

I've got a 200TDi (minus the T..) in my SIII and its doing odd things at full throttle.

With the throttle wide open, and under load, it appears to be hunting with a drop in power every 2-3 seconds that is a bit like a petrol on kangaroo juice....

Question is, does the 200TDi fuel pump have a limiter (not that I think I'm hitting it !) or is this the sign of a duff injector..?

Or is the fuel pump U/S..?? Lift pump and filters were replaced with new, as was all the pipework when it was installed a few months ago.

  12. i should of gone to gwyn in the first place as i have loads of his kit on my truck and would have saved all this hassle, leasson well and truly learned

    Tel

Out of interest, did you pay by credit card..?? if so, your card company is liable under the lovely Section 75 rules. This is a nice little bit of legislation that makes it easy to get your money back if something fails to meet expectations.

    Good guide here

  13. Hi.

That sound perfect. I have looked into swapping the engine with a mechanically minded mate and we both reckon it looks do-able (quite easy, actually, but I won't say that until we've done it!), I've also found somewhere to do it and can easily rent an engine hoist so an engine is the last piece of the puzzle. If you let me know where you are (perhaps by private message is best) and how much you want for it (it's difficult to know but I reckon around £100ish is about right?) I'll arrange to come get the whole thing (I have access to a van).

    You have a PM...

  14. Its a slight thread hijack, but whats the best way to remove the marmite? My inlet manifold has a lovley coating of it, which can do with removing

    Dan

    Dan

Landrover used to do an intercooler one shot cleaner, not sure its still available though.

Gunwash from a paint supplier would do the trick - just make sure you leave it to evaporate before you put the manifold back on as it may make a few loud bangs otherwise !!

  15. Okay, managed to get the windows in at the weekend. Well, almost - after fitting the main seal and glass, I couldn't then get the smaller filler strip in. Has anyone any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Ian.

    Ian

its a pain of a job, but it can be done. You may need the proper tool from someone like Woolies Trim, or you can make one with heavy wire. Needs to part the sides of the main seal and then you push the second seal in.

I did the curved ones on a truck cab - first one took 2 hours, second one 15 minutes !

    Cheers

  16. can you enlighten me.... why wont a defender 200tdi fit?

But on a serious note, just bang a 200tdi in and be done with it!!

I've got a 2 1/4 diesel sat on a pallet here looking for a new home after I took it out to go the 200TDi route.

You can have the head if you want it, think the block is a 3 brg lump. I can get the head to Northampton / Milton Keynes if anyone can drop it down to you.

  17. Also, any tips for removal of the injectors, once the retaining plates have been removed, please? Mine seem to be obstinately "welded" to the engine.

    Mike

Loosen the retaining plates and soak around the injectors with Plus Gas or WD40. Remove the wire from the fuel solenoid and then crank over the engine - its usually enough to pop the injectors from their seats.

  18. thanks for the help guys. I suspect I'll be doing a power steering conversion here in the future, maybe i'll leave the pump for now . I'm wondering if it would hurt anything to blank off the power steering fluid line and just leave what fluid is in the pump? My intercooler as it is right now would have to be re routed if I used the stock Series 2 steering box, so if I did a LHD PAS conversion with a Saginaw box which would be relatively easy and cheap to do here, that would mean I would have less headaches to deal with the intercooler placement and piping as well.

If you want it, I've got the power steering/alternator mount off a discovery that you can have for the postage. It will allow you to fit the pump/alternator in the proper place

  19. help! being told that i can put veg oil in my 2.25 diesel and it will work ok. all the stuff on net couple of years old and too technical.

can't see how myself seams it would be to thick. also free to a good home,i have a hi cap tub when bought this cover came with it, its home made, quite well though its normal 109 van cover but shortened to suit hi cap. comes with door but no brackets, this is free but if you got ssomething i might like say fog lamps that would be nice.01617372999.andrew salford.

    Andrew

The CAV pump will run on it for a while if its new veg oil (from Tesco...) commonly called SVO, but it will fail after a while as they are not built to take the hammer from it. I ran for 2 years on 50/50 diesel and veg oil and it was fine - also added a cetane fuel booster too but not sure how much difference that made.

If you are talking old oil, or waste oil, you are better making biodiesel from it, and make sure its very well filtered.

  20. I have a 1974 light weight with a 2.25L diesel and a Lucas CAV injector pump.

It was puffing diesel smoke and so I replaced the four injectors, now it smokes more and makes a loud noise. I think it is getting to much fuel and or the timing is off, but I cannot figure out how to set the timing or control the fuel mixture.

Does anyone have documantation? Here are a couple of pictures of the pump.

    Thank you in advance,

    James

    James

Unless I'm mistaken, thats not a Landrover engine ! The 2.25 CAV is an upright rotary pump with no solenoid cutoff, that looks like a very different beast.

Got a pic of the engine, or the engine number..?

    Cheers

  21. Just bought a 200Tdi from a disco 1 to put into my 110.

I heard it running and it sounded sweet, just out of curiosity

I whipped out a glow plug and the body of it was covered in oil,

NOT the tip, just the shaft, is this normal? or have I bought a swede?

Mine were the same - could be copperslip to stop them sticking in the head

    Cheers

    Pete
