I am trying to remove the main gear sharft from a d series gearbox. I have followed the instructions in the landrover handbook but the oil thrower can not come out because it is stopped by a gear in the transfer box. What is the best way to deal with this. Remove the brake and then the shaft for this gear or remove the compleate transfer box.

Hi, I have landrover free wheeling hubs fitted to my 109 which I have to remove to replace my shackle pins and bearings. Which position 2x4 or 4x4 should they be in so that I can remove them without damaging them. dixe

I have just bought a set of brake adjusters from Britparts, when I fit them to the rear brakes according to int instructions with the spring out side of the backing plate they do not reach the pin so the brakes can not be adjusted. Should I refit them with the spring inside the backing plate making the bolt relative longer?

I have just bought a set of britparts brake adjusters and when I fitted them as per the instructions. I found that they do not adjust the brake shoes. I have a long wheel base series III. According to the instructions the spring should go outside of the backing plate but then the bolt is not long enough so the adjuster does not touch the pin to adjust the brake. any advice would be appreciated. Hi guys, I am trying to fit a new downpipe exhaust from Britparts and as It about a month since I removed the old one I can not remember if the old on went to the left of the gearbox rubber support or to the right of facing from the back of the car. I have just checked with my friend and found out that it is the 2.5 turbo diesel. The information that he requires to get this engine allowed is to prove that most of the parts used in the engine are the same as that 2.5. He thinks that the crank was changed but most of the other parts are the same. If anybody could e-mail me with a scaned copy of the engine from the parts catologe. this would more than likley be enough for the TUV. Dixe

according to my friend its a 2.25 engine which came from a defender. The TUV will only except an engine which was available 10 years after the manufacturing date of the car which is 1973. as they may have shared engines does any body know where I can download for him the parts manual as a pdf file. dixe

A friend of mine has a 109 which has been fitted with a defender diesle engine. He urgently needs prove that this engine was being built in 1983. So that he can get his car registered as an oldtimer. We know that this was not being mass produced until 1984, but surley somebody out there knows where we could find proof that Landrover were playing with this engines in 1983. This would mean that he can keep his car on the road with out paying a small fortune in road tax (we are talking around 700 pounds) and be will still be able to use it in the city centre of Berlin. On paddocks the same type of barrels is listed as 320609 which I have fitted. I just find it strange that there are two differnet types of barrels. for the same door handles. If I can find out if there are extensions for the new locks they would be lot better as they are made from steel and not aluminum like the longer ones. They only take ten seconds to drill out because they are so soft.

I ordered barrels for a series 3. The part number that I recieved is 395142. The locking part of the barrel is the same length as mine and it has a key with a spring loaded pin to lock it into something. I thought that this might be for an extension bar to go to the hooks to lock in the door but it is not shown in my parts manual. Maybe the parts have been changed by ford. I am just not keen in making my landrover look like Mister Beans mini with a padlock to lock the doors.

Thanks I have bought the ingnition and the barrels for the front doors, but I have a problem with the Barrels because they are around an inch and half shorter than mine. is there a spacer which goes to hooks which lock the doors or are the new locks incorrect. The new locks appear to be much stronger than the originals because they took about 20 secs to drill out being made from alunium instead of steel like the new ones. A bit advice would be gratefully recieved abou this mater. One should never leave the keys on the bonnet when you are working under the car because somebody tried to steal my car the other night. They flattenned the battery trying to start her a 2 oclock in the morning because I had cut through the fuel line going up to the fuel pump just in case. Dixe

I have changed those oil seals but the oil leak is coming from the springs which hold the ball bearings in place. Does any body have any ideas on how I could seal them. I was thinking a dab of silicon at the end where they are held in place. Dixe

I have an oil leak from the top of my gearbox. I have checked the service manuals and they do not tell me about changing any oil seals. I think that is leaking from the gear lever shaft. Does anybody know the part number of the oil seal and how to change it. Dixe

Its not just the French who do these sort of tricks, I have similar experience in Germany. I had a tire replaced with a new innner tube which was 6x 16. this tore itself up on the motorway( The tear was was over half the circumference) and the new trye was distroyed at the same. Since then I look at everything that these so called experts do when ever I go to have new tryes fitted. Dixe

Hi, I had a similar problem with my digital camera. I found that the twain program was not working correctly. The way to check the card would be, can you see the film directly on the camera replay? If so the first method that I woud try is to borrow a card reader from a friend and try that. Save the data directly on the hard disc of the computer. The older files would not have been written over unles the same name was used for saving the data. I hope that this is of some help David
