  1. its straight out of the manifolds at the mo. it was a shakedown to see if it actually worked before i smashed it to pieces
  2. has it got an odd sequence or something like that? do you think it sounds relatively normal in that case?
  3. yes that is what i was refering to. its not got the smoothness like that toyota v8 so until i wire in the MJ i think it will run like that
  4. it is only on the edis so it could be that? but mine does sound pants compared to that toyota jobbie
  5. AWESOME!!! my sincerest thanks go to everyone right now im not sure if anyone will be interested but i can stick a vid on here of it running on edis only???? ah here it is anyway http://s1189.photobucket.com/albums/z436/karlos01/?action=view&current=5da44e11.mp4
  6. the megajolt needs a tps connection, not a map sensor. one wire is something like voltage to tps, another is voltage from and the other is tps earth. is got me muddled.
  7. its not in a landrover / rangie anymore its in another vehicle but came from a rangie and no one seems to know rover v8s like landrover guys so anyway, now i have it running on edis and i can confirm that the mj powers up, what wires go to what bit on the tps? i darent risk killing it. ive got white orange and black as per MJ 3
  8. i think ive found the problem is the white only wire supposed to be ignition live only or cranking and ignition live? i ask that because there is power to the fuel pump relay and when i manually press the contacts of the relay together (i took the lid off) it makes the fuel pump work BUT when i turn the key it loses power when the contacts are made. im thinking its the white wire being a bit wrong
  9. i think ive had a brain wave. http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Downloads/Rover_PDFs/EfiCircuit01.pdf it doesnt mention a starter there so ill leave doing that but i might have a break in the wire along the white/red one from pin 4 to the cranking voltage. oooh fun and games hahaha
  10. well i think im getting somewhere. as i crank the engine it gives a nice 9v to the steering module BUT pin 4 of the ecu plug doesnt see any voltage at all. which is strange. i have 2 steering modules and both give the same result. if i knew which colour wire went where i could trace it back but part of me thinks both modules are indeed buggered.
  11. christ almighty. the carbs work so badly. so its back to efi and some really hefty troubleshooting im going to tow it to the scrappers i swear it i am
  12. id rather be less 40 with it working than having zero hp and a non working injection set up
  13. after last night i caved and fitted some carbs at least until a hotwire injection set up comes about
  14. right im going to check as much as poss. the main relays and steering relay etc. should the voltage actually be 6 - 9v from the coil packs or is 8v acceptable?
  15. well the pump only works with a tickle of the flap. there is a nice spark, 11.5v on the -ve of the coils. crank it over and it drops to 8v with a bit of variance. 12v at the injectors, pump works, spark works, injectors dont. would the ecu be buggered?
  16. im feeling confident that a test this evening might reveal something. or nothing....
  17. i think i need to test whether the injectors work. i was cranking it over with my mate the other day. edis connected, diodes all connected, he had the multimeter across an injector plug to see if there was a voltage but alas not. im thinking if i bodge the flapper open and crank it too then it should surely fire the injectors? friggen thing
  18. right, ive basically gone and put the 4 diodes on but grouped 2 coils to one zener twice and then grouped them to one wire to feed the blue and white wire. i have a lovely spark from the edis so no issue there. the fuel pump works now. i tested it by fingering the flapper (ooh err), and using the multimeter i have found that there is a constant 11.8v off the wire i used on the coils with the ignition on which i think is correct. that then went to the white / blue wire. i may need to try to finger the flapper and crank it over at the same time. the issue here is that i havent had all the bits with this engine and ive thrown it together as best as i can.
  19. badly struggling now. ive tried that wiring the whatsit coils together using those diodes and its not had any of it. im about ready to switch to carbs here people what a bloody headache this is turning out to be
  20. basically cost and me not having the slightest interest at all in the megasquirt. if 2 systems is good enough for 90% of oem manufacturers out there then its good enough for me!
  21. Mr Freezer, thank you very much for that snippet of info! i am eternally grateful. i shall post up the results if it ever works.
  22. Hi all, this is my first post and im begging too. i have an 89 range rover v8 3.5 flapper type efi. im trying to add mj to it and it has the over run relay on it. do i connect the over run relay white and blue wire to the tach out on the MJ or the Tach out on the edis 8? im confused to the point of it all going in the bin! many thanks in advance
