  1. Yippeeeee!!!!! Job done....Many thanks to you all. Just to bring up to speed. Les, you were quite correct with the over zealous nut fitter.....I couldn't get enough leverage and my husband's hands are too big!!! so called in a neighbour who has not touched a LandRover in his life but knows Rover - he complained a bit about the tightness of the nuts. Got the inlet manifold off and obviously whoever did the HG did not replace the O rings in the manifold as these were totally hardened and perished!!!!! Job done, system bled and running fine - at present. Will do the soap powder to-morrow. Our neighbour also suggested we replace Dis cap as it is cracked and to certainly do the plugs and a good oil change - otherwise, he thinks the engine is running fine, for now as he concurs with everyone else re HG issue. Many thanks to everyone from the Trainee LandRover mechanics MuppetsMom
  2. To FridgeFreezer and anyone else. We have done as instructed in your post re Inlet Manifold. We cannot get the four screws on the bottom freed...We have WD40'd we have cursed, kicked and busted knuckles. We followed the basic for only O Rings but have a feeling the throttle bits may have to come off. Will this give us any more access? Obviously this job has not been done in long time!!! Even bought the flexible spanners - will not budge. M Mom
  3. Hi FF. Checked leaks with soapy water all over yesterday - nothing obvious. Ran her until normal removed cap ooff engine and touch wood only thing bubbling in there was oil!!! Looks like there has already been a head gasket repair done (before us) as there is certainly pink gasket sealant at one side. Will check the write up and have a go. If nothing else we are finding our way round this vehicle. A work in progress - have stripped out the back of her rust- treated, sealed and repainted - in between the rain over the past two weeks!!! Thanks for all your help and advice. M Mom
  4. Thanks Les. I can confirm that the two fans are working. I have my doubts about the thermostat as I would have expected it to rise above half with the coolant loss. Will get back to you later on today. Many thanks M Mom
  5. Thanks Les. Are doing soap test in morn. Any other suggestion as to what may be wrong if this is inconclusive? M Mom
  6. Thanks for that Gary. Would it lose that much so quickly?? As you may have realised I am not a mechanic but am not afraid to tinker. My husband cannot hear the slow hiss but I can. Would a rubber 'O' ring around the cap threads do in the meantime? MMom
  7. Landy V8 - no there is no pool of liquid under the car - not even an oil leak!! Car is driving fine just using/losing coolant. gary1968 the expansion tank MMom
  8. Hi everybody - here we go again. We just checked fluids etc on our Freebie and noticed the coolant was empty.....what prompted the check was the heat inside the car and the blower was not making much difference!!! Coolant was empty - checked engine compartment - oil is fine not milky. Our coolant is more water than coolant. Car is running fine. Thermostat seems ok. Any suggestions? The only thing I have noticed is a slight hiss from the coolant thingy - husband does not hear this as he has only 3/4 hearing there is no obvious leak.... All suggestions gratefully received. Muppetsmom
  9. Fridge - thank you very much - we will get back to this darned connection to-morrow as my brother plastic tied it on so personally I think your solution plus the plastic tie will be the best way forward. Thank you again......I have told anybody and everybody about the helpfulness of you guys and girls on this forum all week-end. I am sure I'll be back for more!!!!
  10. Thank You....will have another go later......does it make more sense after a glass of vino?? Lol....Unfortunately I am the computer geek here and I think I was just so hung up on getting darned Freelander going I may habve missed something. Once again thanks for your help. Muppets Mom
  11. Thanks Mav - Ps: I note you have a C reg LR90 with 200 tdi conversion my husband has a B reg LR90 with 200 tdi conversion - he might soon be on here looking for answers!!! W
  12. Thanks to everyone for all your help. My brother rechecked all that we had done and all that you had suggested, then he removed the lead on the fuel pump and pushed it back on (which I had done yesterday!!!) turned key - started then stopped again so at the minute lead on top of pump is secured and we are running!!!!
  13. Slowly going baldy here!! (no disrespect to anyone out there) Have downloaded RAVE1, 2, & 3 but will load nothing more than the front page of lovely rocks and the logo!!! any suggestions?
  14. FridgeFreezer - that is on the todo list for to-morrow am. Have now got my brother on the job as well. Failing this it's onto the back of his lorry and off to the local independent garage which to date has never failed us in sorting out problems.....will be back tomorrow with the next instalment.....
  15. 1. Have downloaded RAVE - not explored yet 2. Think husband has pushed button on reset switch already. ....and Freda the Freelander's saga continues..... Thanks to all you have helped - will post again to-morrow
  16. FridgeFreezer - many thanks. Just back from my mother's again having replaced battery, fuses, checked wiring. Vehicle does not seem to be getting fuel so possibly looking at fuel pump issue but having said that the darned thing has stopped beeping at us!!!! Even checked the crank thing - seems fine. Will have a go at RAVE...many thanks Ann
  17. You may be right here - if you see my other reply to Marty we have tried everything else - even disconnected ECU and checked for water ingress.....not having access to a manual at the minute - please excuse my ignorance and point me in the direction of the points - please Car is trying to start and certainly is not flooding with petrol. Ann
  18. Thanks Marty, Just back from "fixing".....did have the battery out but not for long enough - have new battery reserved to collect to-morrow. Cleaned all blades, cleaned red wire to starter, cleaned battery terminals etc, tried resetting rover fob - the only noticeable difference was that the back window developed a mind of it's own and went up and down like a yo-yo!!!! If you didn't laugh you would cry!!! Even tried rocking in reverse....to-morrow is another day....Ann
  19. One thing after the other!!

  20. Hi Everyone, I am a Newbie here and desperately need some help. Drove my landy 50 mile round trip today, in heavy rain had it stopped and started, drove to my Mum's parked, locked. 3/4 hour later went out unlocked all got in and it would not start!!! Tried jump start - nothing. Points to note are: Key Fob is Rover style one - I am just back from replacing battery in it - no joy Vehicle will alarm, arm, disarm and reimmobilise itself when left with doors unlocked, no problem. Turn key, wait for lights out - turn engine - turns but no kick to start ALSO you can hear the series of beeps after a period of trying (30 secs)as if immobilising or re-alarming itself. Looked at dis cap and leads no obvious dampness PLEASE - PLEASE - any suggestions. - Please bear in mind - I not a great mechanic and being a girly maybe a bit slow as my husband says - having one of those days!! LOL. Also some guidelines on what to expect with this would be good - have a feeling head has been replaced at some stage (146,100) miles and original engine (I think) GOOD THING IS ~ We are well aware that Landy's are very much a work in progress Many thanks for hopefully your suggestions and guidance.
