Hi. I'm new here. I have a 2005 Freelander with about 70,000 miles. Runs great, but has a whining noise probably coming from right front. It increases with speed, without regard to what gear the automatic gearbox is in. It's been this way since I bought it, and does not seem to be getting worse, but I'm concerned since my wife drives this car. I bought a used IRD to install because I think it is the right output bearing in the IRD that may be bad, but the noise could also be coming from the right wheel bearing or CV. I also bought new front axles for both sides. First, I'd like to know if someone has an idea about where that whining may actually be coming from. Second, if it is the IRD, can anyone give me some ideas about how to remove it? Any tips? Thanks very much, Chris.
