  1. The best advice for buying anything from Withams, is go and see what they have, look in the boxes to work out what is exactly in there, the descriptions can be a little vague... it's a great place wander around, loads to look at...:)

    cheers John.

  2. Hi All,

    Car is a 97 3.9V8 Disco.

    Recent History.

Have just changed the starter motor, I disconnected the batteries whilst I did this, due to other events I left them disconnected for three days.

When I leave the Disco for long periods I always disconnect the batteries for months at a time and have had no ill effects.

    Fault.

The electric windows, central locking do not work.

Hazards don't work (but indicators do)

    Horn doesn't work

The interior light, radio, CB (cb is wired to interior light circuit) doesn't work

If any of the above i.e. interior light does work its like it shorts out or pulls down the electrical system.

For instance if the radio does come on, if you turn on the interior light the radio goes off and then nothing works for a few minuets.

The alarm keeps immobilising the engine, i have taken out the appropriate fuses to disable the alarm in the mean time...

The engine starts and runs fine, lights work, car drives perfectly. All instruments work.

Problem seems to be locking, windows, alarm, horn, hazards interior light related....

I have tried a jump lead from the neg to the engine incase its earth related, my feeling is there is an earth fault somewhere but I have no idea where..

Any thoughts please help as I need to get this sorted ASAP

    Cheers guys

    Andy

Hi Andy, just read through the above, and sounds like an alarm issue which would affect the lights, central locking and windows...

wonder whether the alarm unit is at fault...?

    good luck

    John.

  3. Is that your land rover 110 that you posted the photo of?

I too have a Wolf with full WMIK kit on, didnt know some one had done a wolf so close to me (I am in Suffolk). Is the plate holding your spare wheel on a standard one, its just that it looks different to the normal one in the pic.

I also have a 110 wolf Hardtop, so two vehicles with side pounted spare wheels. One had to go through a DVLA inspection before I could register it and neither have had any problem legally with a side mounted spare. I dont think it will be a problem on a civvie rover, just so long as it is well secured. On a wolf its on the rollcage, on a normal civvie Landy the hard top is going to have to be beefed right up to take the strain...

Nope, not mine belonged to a guy called Steve, think he was up Staffordshire way, he brought the wmik cage down I bought from him, and took a few pics of his motor while he was there. Mine is more like a prototype vehicle/project, just needs finishing off and painting.... pic below...

    cheers John

  4. Mo Murphy was thinking of doing similar recently, do a search for his thread, seems a good move BUT most likely not UK road legal, military vehicles have Crown dispensation from some Construction & use/road law regs.

Recently took my 110 with a wmik cage on the back down for an MOT, the guy doing the MOT didn't mention the legalities of the spare wheel mounted on the side, just made sure it was secure..... :D

  5. Has anyone got pictures/ bracketry for the mounting of spare wheel on side of landrover tub? I'd like to make one or buy one cheap being a tighta--e that I am!

    Thanks in advance Tim

Hi Tim, I know a place that sells the spare wheel bracket you want, but they don't have the round clamp part that holds the wheel on, usually £15. If your interested let me know....

    cheers John.

  6. First time for me and the boys at Billing (sunday), as always it's an interesting experience going to new places, plenty to see and do, organisation seemed a little lacking in places but overall was a good day out. The offroad course was excellent especially the water and mud runs..

looking forward to returning next year....
