I am considering having a LPG conversion done to my 02 Discovery 2 V8 any body done it ? am I being silly thinking about it ? I realise it will cost in the region of 2 grand and will take about 20,000 miles to recoupe the cost but worried about it,s effect on my loverly 30,000 mile 4.0 V8 any good trustworthy dealers known to you all, all replys much appricated

[Front output bearing]

The front output bearing on the transfer case is supposed to have some play in it - it's a different type of bearing to the rear one. The movement limit is 8mm (I think)

[RRC Alloys that I want]

There are some old school RRC alloys I've seen they're the only ones I think will suit my 2 door. Trouble is I can't even find a picture now and don't know the name.

They have many many spokes and are black inside all the spokes but the spoke outer faces are polished. Imagine making a groove every centimetre in a solid disk of alloy and thats basically what they look like.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hi all can anybody tell me if is poss to change front out put bearing in transfer box on 93 200tdi defender in situ I seem to have a viberation that I thought was prop but tested it and its fine but noticed if you give the flange a shake when prop was off there is some play so I assume the bearing has worn thanks

Hi Happy new year to all. Anybody fitted a bulkhead removal bar like safety devices / perfomance and protection one, Any pitfalls to watch for is it a sod of a job bought one at billing a couple of years ago (with no instructions) to fit to my 93 tdi and never got round to fitting it but now about to! any tips pics etc much appricated Thanks

Did they ever work at two speed? IIRC 2 speed wipers were only fitted to "upmarket" vehicles. There is a different motor for single & dual speed, no relays involved, the two-speed motor has an extra wire coming out of it. It could be the switch.

This is the standard single speed setup

Yes you can fit 750 x 16, but you need suitable rims, those of a 109 will do.

Hi can anybody help please My S3 lightweight wipers only work on second click of switch IE fast is it likely the switch has gone or motor or some relay? thanks also I was wondering if you can fit 750x16 tyres in place of the standard 600's on the orginal rims to raise the gearing as it seems to scream at 50 /60 even with overdrive in.

Hi all Ihave a Disco 2 V 8 does any one know why the small fan in front of rad (air con I think) seems to run all the time once engine has reached running temp air con off I would assume it must have a sensor some where that has gone is this poss? if so any idea where it is or do you think I have some other prob? thanks

Overdrive should only whine when engaged. Check/change your oils and look for nasty bits of metal in it.

Thanks all As les said I thought it would only whine when engaged but seems to be the same in or out It did'nt seem as bad before the clutch/gearbox swap, it was changed due to slip and no syncro on fourth gear The garage assure me the box is good

Hi All help please I have a series 3 lightweight with overdrive I have lots of transmission whine and am not sure if it comes from the gearbox or overdrive my garage say its the overdrive bearings (but they fitted a s/h box and new clutch) the noise is there with the overdrive in or out I would have thought if it was the overdrive it would have done it in or out what do you more experenced series drivers think?

Rear sections should be able to be made to fit, but the downpipes are different...

the 300 has a "triangle" shaped flange that bolts to the manifold, the 200's use a large clamp to, err, clamp the pipe to the manifold.

I use Magnatec 5w30 synth because that is what the spec in the book translates to, the mineral oils don't meet the ACEA spec. No idea why the change as it is the same engine as has already been pointed out...

Thanks guys disco's same as bogmonsters has done 24000 miles so I hope it's going to be OK I do'nt really want to have to drain £50 worth for no reason

Help please i have 02 disco 2 4.0 v8 what oil should i have put in I thought I was useing the best (castrol magatec 5/30 synthtic) but have been told by mechanic friend V8s dont like synthic oil is this true or just myth thanks

I am sick of our 300TDi Discovery.

We have had 3 or 4 V8 Series One Discoverys in the past, I have stuck with the 300TDi for a year and have finally deduced that deisel has no place in a road car.

a mate has just bought a late S2 TD5 Disco and its outside our shop most days, I didn't like S2 Discoverys before but its growing on me. This lead me to have a look at Autotrader and I was stunned by the price of S2 V8s now, even LPG ones are cheap with sensible miles and Service history.

Sog who's got one?

What issues have you had with it?

I assume the V8s are pretty similar to the S1 really other than rear Air springs?

Hi asked same questions as you last month ended up buying 2002 GS sounds like bogmonsters except has ace,we did'nt want air springs and both me and wife hate electric seats she's 5'' and I'm 6'' after having it for 2 weeks was pleased with it I say was due to finding out it leaks (headlining full of water) so my advice to add to the excellent post from bogmonster is check the rooflining after the rain good luck i think they are potentally very nice

Hello Bob,

when i bought my D2 i had exactly the same problem, "it rained it leaked badly".

The first thing i done was to seal the sun roof with duck tape from glass to paint this will take about three strips all round.

This i thought will tell me if it`s the sunroof leaks, however next time it rained it still leaked. The water seemed to gather where the roof first slopes from the rear and dripped into the bootspace.

Now i knew my problem was somewhere else, so i sealed the alpine windows in the same way and hey presto no more leaks. Then it was just a case of sealing the Alpine windows with clear silicone all the way round and iv`e not had a leak since.

I am lead to believe that this is quite a common problem and the sunroof drain also blocks easily.

Hope this will be of use to you it worked for me .

Hi all I went and did it disco2 on drive defender for sale was pleased for a week think it should do what i need it for but big problem help needed it leaks badly does anybody know of possable reasons/cures is this usual it seems to be from sun roof but hard to tell as roof lineing is full looks like it dosent like it's new life outside on drive was kept in garage before any idea's please
