  1. have you tried the Co-op who have these little black boxes that track the car, its speed, and cornering forces ? I have a simialr problem finding insurance for offspring who has just passed her test. NFU don't want to know until she is 21, AND I can prove she does some form of work on the farm. Ratcatching ? These boxes are known as Telematics http://www.insurethebox.com/telematics-car-insurance-to-save-you-money Farmer Tim
  2. Hi everyone. Just joined after a mere 40 years and 12 landrovers of various types..... Ze Defender of my wife (XS / 90 ) with an 07 plate and 28000 miles (yes we are hard users) has an issue with the gearbox. Symptoms. No Loss of fluid in master cylinder (recently changed for a genuine beduine LR one) Slave bled and OK Gear selection inconsistent and especially 1 - easier to go into 2 and then 1 when stationary Sometimes on changing gear there is a screechy/growly sound from the gearbox, lasting less than a second. Gearbox fluid all changed for correct and expensive stuff recently, so levels are OK From time time the gear stick is reluctant to move out a gear Sometime the stick won't select a gear, and I have to play rushing roulette and go up and down again Sometimes (again) the synchrmesh seems to fail and I get a beginner's scratching of cogs until I match the revs more precisely Double declutching (yes, I can still do it !) seems to work but it ain't 'alf slow, Mum. It feels occasionally as if the 'gate' has got lost; fiddling around into adjacent gears seems ot clear this We believe the clutch is fine, and that it goes in and out properly. If anyone can throw some chicken entrails into the air and by divination, or even expertise, suggest what the matter is, my SWMBO will be much happier - and so will I. A mole in the Taunton LandRover dealership says that they have replaced a number of gearboxes on XS's. Is this true, Oh Wise Ones ? Sorry for the long first post. I must say that I like the tone of this forum - it must be the smell of EP90 Farmer Tim many thanks
