This is going to sound like a silly question, but which way up does the plate that bolts to the towbar go?
i've bolted one to the back of the disco, and i'm not sure if it's the right way round
pics would be nice.
if you're talking about a dixon bate affair, the 4 holes on the slider want to be closest to the ground. As in these pics http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-90-110-ADJUSTABLE-TOW-KIT-1984-98-/280503534402?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item414f504342

tachograph?
ah wiki has the answer... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachograph
odd, why are they needed?
Tachographs are required for any vehicle over 3.5T that are being used commercially. Eg a 3.5T transit towing a trailer needs to have a tacho fitted.
There are a few exemptions such as emergency services.
Another reason why I can't understand why landrover do not offer Tachographs as a factory fitted option.

Woken up this morning and I've lost one mudflap and the others about to follow! Seems to have broken off the rear tub
Can I have part numbers for both rear mudflaps and mounting brackets please!

This has got me thinking,
If I remove the ECU from the vehicle does it make it harder to steal? Or will it mean that the car wont lock?

If your interested pm me with a telephone number and I will ring you and make a plan
Thank very much, look forward to hearing from anyone!
think i passed you today Grant in bourne end, I was the black 110 with G4 roof rack who flashed and waved like a loon!

do you not have a trailer light on the dash? A buzzer would do my head in...
A light is perfectly acceptable instead of a buzzer!

Since the can of worms is open, does anybody actually know anybody, or has themselves, been booked for driving without a licence while towing 750kg+ on a B licence (i.e. passed post 1997)?
I saw a traffic cops program where a woman got booked for it, Driving with incorect license and obviously no insurance as she didnt have a proper license to tow...

Thanks for the quick responses. If i can't do a C+E straight away then it sounds like its not worth it. I was hoping to avoid extra tests but looks unlikely. I'll probably just bite the bullet and do the normal B+E first, i know i can tow perfectly well and am very good at reversing but after driving for a few years no doubt i need a refresher to get to test standard.
Another quick question, when reversing with a trailer do you have to use the wing mirrors only or can you hang your head out the window as i find it much easier?
Cheers, Paul
I stuck my head out of the window on my test, examiner had no dramas with it
Other thing you could consider is doing D1 and then D1+E which will upgrade you to B+E too? Depends if you ever have to drive minibuses.

I did my B+E two years ago using a family run business in Portsmouth. Its well worth doing, but be aware they expect a high standard of driving.
Managed to pass with only two minors first time though.....

Anyone know the PN for the metal clip on the seat securing straps?

I've heard of issues with changing gear ratios and the cruise control, does it work with the standard speed sensor?
The CC does use speed to some extent, as it wont engage below a certain speed

The incomming line looks ok, its called MICC cable and lasts forever if installed properly.
Hopefully you should be able to have a consumer unit installed on the end of the micc cable, but all depends on how its fed. You might have difficulty finding a spark whos good enough/old enough to deal with MICC.

Just trying to make sure my defender is prepped for driving to Spain with trailer, getting stuck with the headlamps.
What do people recomend for adjusting the headlamp beam on my defender? Do those stickers work / can they be fitted to defenders?

I might be around Berko then, should be able to show you about?
Think I know all the lanes and a few UCRs too for good measure!

My defender is still shiney... hasn't stopped me walking on the roof, seems to take it ok.
although i use the spare wheel to get on, rather than dent the bonnet!

When I fitted a thermo top to mine, the hoses came with the heater.
Does anyone want a thermotop for spares, as I removed mine after getting fed up with having to repair it every few months. Repaired twice under warranty and then at great expense a few times. The hoses have been used for another project though
mines used, so i dont have any hoses with it!
What kept going wrong with it? I have the service manual if that helps
-
ok, failing that what size is the heater hose used on the TD5, and where is the best place to get couplers from?
Chris
-
Assuming its RHD..............
AWR6237 is the heater outlet pipe & AWR6235 is the heater inlet pipe
they're the standard pipes.. I want the ones used with the FBH, should be an LR part as the FBH is available as a factory fit option
-
what engine is fitted as it will affect the hose part numbers ?
TD5
I've managed to find the disco ones, buts thats as far as i've got!
-
Evening all, just in the process of installing a webasto fuel burning heater (thermo top C) into my defender, and trying to gather the bits I need!
Anyone know the landrover part number for the two heater hoses, one from the engine to the heater, the other from the heater to the heater matrix?
I'd rather use the genuine parts rather than join lengths of hoses....(but only if the price is right!)
