The problem was due to a faulty fuel pump in the rear of the Freelander, once replaced the vehicle now works fine....

Got a 2006 2ltr Sport auto diesel freelander - When going up hill the Engine Malfunction light comes on and there is a serious loss of power, once on the flat the light goes out and power is restored - any ideas ?

I'm new to 4x4's and just recently bought a 2006 2.0ltr diesel Freelander Sport. The oil was changed about 9mth / 3,000 miles ago but is extremely black - Is this normal and what is the recommended interval for oil changes ?
