  1. Thanks guys for all the info ill get the td5 bulkhead and get it fitted if i get stuck ill come back. thanks again one more thing on the image is the bulkhead on this a td5 with the harness coming from the side and not the middle as you have been saying
  2. Thanks for the quick reply I have got a chance at a td5 bulkhead wit all the clocks and the wiring intact basically its got evrything on it. like you said it might be easyier to fit it to the 300tdi engine in as there is no ecu like with you efi engine i suppose, if i am thinking correctly i could leave evrything intact in the loom and just disconnect the wiring which isnt needed in the fuse box ie abs and stuff. i was planning ordering a chassis from richars as they are only a short distance from my house so it would be easy for me to collect. im thinking that the fuel tank will be easy to fit to the 300 engine or will be there some problems with the set up? i.e does the fuel arrive at the same pressures because or the td5 having a different pump to the 300tdi. thanks again
  3. Basically i will be building a defender 90 on to a new galv chassis out of the old td defender i have now. my query is as im currently looking for a newer bulkhead to replace my old shabby td one is if i bought a 300tdi galv chassis and a td5 bulkhead from a scrappy would they mount together ok, i presume the bulkhead fittings would be the same? also on more question would i be able to get the 300tdi engine wired up on the td5 bulkhead wiring, i have seen the thread with getting the td5 dash wired up to the tdi units so i presume it would be the same kind of situation. is it just a case of converting the wiring to match a 300tdi engine wiring? sorry for all the questions but would a td5 fuel tank mount to the 300tdi chassis easy? ive seen it done on a defender before but didnt know how it was done. the defender was for sale and it was basically a td5 on a galv chassis but with a 300tdi engine it had the rear tank and the dash but when i looked the chassis was a tdi one as the tabs at the back were on the outside of the body work and not undernieth like the td5. any info would be great thanks for your time paul
  4. Hi everyone just thought id post a comment. like it is said if they want it they will have it, when i had my defender i was told by some friend that they eared some local chavs talking about my defender saying they were going to take it, so i started to park it behind my girlfrieds car to as you say make it harder for them then i bit the bullet and paid for a tracker to be fitted which in the unfortunate event it did end up being stolen then i would have a good chance in retrieving it. what the weak point mainly is the locks as they are very inadequate so i diconected mine in the end and left it on the central locking. (if anyone thinks that i am posting what ive got done to mine i have no longer got it so it would not be any use to anyone knowing what i had done to mine) the disklock is a good deterant but you can get them off with ease i wont put how but i tried it on mine and it came off within minutes and also didt damage anything, the best device is a removal steering wheel so you can take it with you. sorry for going on but the police are a joke and there is no deterrent at all, at one point all young lads were driving around in defenders an im not kinding some were definate ringers i saw one which looked like a xs 90 on a tax exempt plate!!! an the kid driving it was no older then 17. the police to be fair did clamp down on them and there were lots confiscated and taken away on flatbeds,(results at last) but no with in weeks they had them back, i had to ask one kid about one he had and he said they took it and said it had stolen parts on it but because the car the parts came from had been paid out by the insurance he could buy it back for £500 and also the best bit the have given him a age related plate!!! what a joke so the police are now basically saying steal a landrover ring it up and then buy it back from us for pitance and we will make it legal for your. it makes you sick
  5. hi all again I know that the security glass ass some issues with the event of trying to escape in a emergency, it was just one of them things that i did to mine but then again i didnt really go serious off roading in mine for it to tip really each to there own uses i suppose. also i forgot to put that when i disconnected the locks i thought of the flat battery situation and fitted some flying leads from the battery with a connector on the end you find them used on caravans and stuff so that if it did go flat i could connect it to another batt externally to give it a boost of power to unloack the car. All security these days as is stated is not un passable like it is said if they want they will have it all you can do is put as much on it to make it a longer task for them so hopeflly someone will stop them or better still you can come out and catch them and give a thwack around the head with a large blunt object! one good thing i have noticed around my area is that the police are actually doing something about the bent landys, at one point i could count at least 5 on my trip around the area which were defo ringers with the likes of nearly new looking landys on tax exempt plates and so on all being driven by youngsters and now the police have started there crackdown i dont see many if not any at all. What they have done is set one man and team on with the task of stopping them and checking them one of the policemen is an expert on landys had them all his life so can recognise anything wrong with them straight away, nice to know for one our taxes are being used for a good thing.
  6. i know this post is a little old but the method i took too was buying some window tints which acts like armoured glass no matter what they hit it with it will not break through (it isnt just normal window tint it is designed for it especially you can get it from ebay in clear or tinted) Also the earth wire which is attached to the injector pump i cut it in 2 in a descrete place connect 2 long wires and then connected them to a switch which is very well hidden, when you switch one way car works when locking car up switch the other way and try as you may it will not start. Another good devide i have seen is the mech lock system from mud uk it pipes inline with the cluctch so when you lock the car up turn the removable key on the system and it stops your clutch working apparently you can fit them to the brakes too so when the brake is pressed it will not release them. they are expensive but so is the excess and the cost of a new landy. one other thing is to totally disconect your locks on the landy and fit a remote central locking unit so thieving scum cannot simply turn the locks with a spoon to get it as they will not be connected to anything. On my last defender i fitted a tracker and i would recommend this to anyone because if nothing the twats who took it will get caught but then i know with the way this pussy country is they will only get a slap on the hand and be made to promise not do it again,(joke) they want kneecapping or there fingers chopped off. I had to laff the other day as at the bottom of the road were i live it is quite secluded and when i drove past i rember seeing a black 90 td5 on a 56 plate parked up looked like a xs model looked really well, when i came back i noticed a police man looking around it then leaving it. later on that night a disco 3 pulled up with a couple of lads inside they jumped out and proceeded to get in the defender then out of knowhere the police pulled up and nabbed them all. apparently the lads had nicked it the night before and parked it there to check if anyone recoved it with a tracker, it did have one but the police left it there for a trap. brilliant! i was laughing ear to ear.
  7. hi again i have checked the defender like you all have pointed out, there doesnt seem to be any movement on the panard bar and also the swivels for movement but there isnt anything that is apparent. but i noticed that when moving the steering wheel left to right quickly, the drop arm ball joint moves backwards and forrwards on its pivet, dont know if this is normal or not but i have ordered one to change it to see if it cures the bump steer if not then im going to take it in to a garage. thanks for all the advice guy it as been much appreciated cheers paul
  8. hi everyone I am in need of help (not personally) i have a current problem with my 90 in that when i drive it day to day on the roads an i drive over a slightly raised grate or something i get feedback through the steering wheel like juddering but there isn't any sound just that the steering wheel shakes and sometimes it is really bad especially when i go around a long bend and hit a bump in the road or something, when it is this bad it continues to shake until i slow down. initially i thought i was the steering dampener so i changed it for a new one but this has not cured the problem, i have looked at the steering components/joints/wheels and they seem to be OK they can be moved by hand but how easy should they move?? I would appreciate any help from you guys as i am getting worried that something dangerous may happen if i do not cure it. i would rather cure it myself first before i go to a garage were they will lift my leg and possibly not cure it. Anyway thanks for your time and any help would be much appreciated cheers Paul p.s don't know if this is any use but my defender is fitted with the later td5 axles.
