  1. PDWA = Pressure Differential Warning Actuator ..................this is a device that sits in the brake lines to warn you of a pressure loss (and to shut off the faulty circuit) in dual circuit brakes................

IIRC the defender caliper was also used the disco, so I guess there will be correctly fitting pads out there with the sensors and wires correctly moulded into the pad, however, I think this was not a feature used on UK defenders..................although maybe some ROW markets might require this feature..

Often the light flashing intermittently will be due to a faulty switch on the master cap ......................

Your right just checked not senor cable on pad on my 1985 2.5 diesel defender, I do have same problem I disconected master cylinder cables but didn't make any difference. The light comes on and flashes intermidiate and after a drive for a few miles goes out again but sometime comes on again. checked brake fluid but level ok and don't have a handbrake switch on this model either maybe the cable is earthing some where. any suggestion.

    Cheers

  2. The brake warning light is either for the PDWA or low fluid level, I've not seen anything in the wiring diagrams to say otherwise.

Sorry what is PDWA I'm a novice, i think maybe your right I thought the pads had a senor cable on a set I was ordering from Paddocks

  3. Hi ,

The first pic (single wire) is engine water temp , sender is either in the thermostat hsg or maybe on the top of the head at the rear near the heater pipe , the second (2 wires) is probably for the brake fluid resevoir float switch, colours don't look right tho......

    Thanks Steveb

The green wire you said is for themostat is already connected to the top of engine as in pic. Is it possible it is to give both options and is an extra cable

  4. You will need to replace the big brown wire (which will probably be going to the big terminal on the alternator) with one that's at least 8-10mmsq. Checking VWP's catalogue they stop doing standard thinwall cable at 6mm2 (50 Amps) and start doing battery cable at 16mm2 (110A) so I'd be going for some 16mm2 battery cable, then you will have a good safety factor, lower resistance, and if you decide to bolt on even more lights you won't need to replace it if you fit a bigger alt.

The cable usually runs to the live terminal on the starter solenoid, or straight to the battery + terminal.

Thanks for your help I have checked and it looks like i have two brown cables I think about 4/6sqm from terminal to solinoid and also two going towards bulkhead somewhere were battery cable comes in from under seat.if i get one 16sqm cable do i run this from the terminal to solinoid and solinoid to battery all in 16sqm cable instead of the two smallier cables

    thanks again

  5. Suitable size spade/ring crimp terminals to suit.

You will need to upgrade the alternator output wiring from the alternator to the starter.

Thanks for info It is a 2.5 N/A 1985 defender at the momment it is a spade conection two brown and one yellow/brown charging light I think.

What I am going to do is cut and crimp the two brown wires to a ring conector for a pole connection and same for other wire. the loom looks very dodgey around the engine can this be tided up some how, I read i should change brown wires to heavier one. can someone help. p.s. it's just for more lights front and roof, but also just to upgrade thought this would be better than 45amp

    thanks again

  6. Hi
